As someone said, get out of Dodge if you don't like it.

Two stories I read today exemplifies my point.

1. A woman who is pregnant and has been out of work for eight months claims she now doesn't know what she is going to do for income. No mention of a baby daddy or spouse. Unemployment insurance is designed to be a bridge between losing one job and gaining another, not seeing you through a pregnancy. The unemployment extension being kicked around was designed to ease the plight of those when the unemployment levels were booming, not when there is a 7% unemployment rate.

2. In another article at CBS, a women is distraught because now she said she has to find a job and must find a way to work that into her school classes. Since when was unemployment insurance meant to support someone through school. It sounded to me like finding a job was not a high priority to her but now has since the gravy train ends tomorrow.

I was surprised that the authors of the "poor me" hand wringing articles would mention either of these women, to listen to some, these people are destitute and this life raft is being pulled out from under them. I believe many who have been on the government dole have a variation of these type of stories. I suggest they hit the pavement and get a job instead of crying.

Pat, Have you ever been in the position of desperately needing a job?
Any job?

It seems, from what you have said, that your job, career, whatever,
became available the day that you were born.

Good for you.
However, you just may have a rather simplistic view
of job hunting in the real world.

This has nothing to do with me Sea Dog it has to do with people expecting longer term unemployment benefits when the unemployment level has now lowered and the previous threat has ended. In my opinion, unemployment and SS disability are two ways that welfare is being meted out to the undeserving. Why a pregnant woman got pregnant is her business, expecting the rest of us to foot her bills is another.

There are 4 million job openings in the US and 11 million unemployed. How do you figure that all those unemployed could get jobs? As for that pregnant woman, do you think to hell with the baby, who had nothing to do with the mother getting pregnant.

The dropping of the extension only effects about 1.5 million people. With 4 million job openings they should have no problem finding a job.

If the opening is for a computer engineer and the unemployed person isn't a computer engineer, he won't get hired for that job. We've discussed this numerous times before. Jobs have to be matched to qualified employees.

People can take jobs lower than their last job. With 4 million openings there will be no problem for nearly all of the 1.5 million to find a job.

Many have taken lower jobs. The jobs might not be where the unemployed person is.

If there are 4 million job openings today and if the economy is getting so much better as liberals claim it is then the jobs will be there nation wide.
