Ban, The first attempt to pass some sort of national health care in Congress happened in 1917 and conservatives shot it down. I read once that after WWII we required the Japanese and Germans to add health care as a right in their new constitutions. The Republicans blocked the US from doing the same Personally I believe that the mega rich insurance company CEO's are motivated more by greed than by politics. Pat, How do you know that the pay Federal Income tax? According to the right there is a 50% chance that they don't. Edited by campingken, Dec 24 2013, 02:46 AM.

There is no doubt Ken that we need tax reform, those that are not paying federal income tax use the guidelines and schedules of the current law. About 50% have exemptions due to income being too low, and many of them get paid inst4ead of paying under a provision called earned income credit. Another form of welfare. |

The earned income credit is a refund of payroll taxes people pay, so they did pay, they just got that money back. Better than having them on welfare wouldn't you think? |

I was giving Ken my answer to his question Neal. Better than welfare? I suppose for them. My point is that we have a spending crisis that needs abated. And big government is not the answer to solving all of our problems. |

Since we've never had a means of solving our problems other than government, what do you suggest we do other than government? Why would the EIC not be better than welfare, even to you. Those people are working, they just don't make enough to live on. |

It's not the government solving problems that we dread. It's the government creating problems that we dread. "The 10 most dangerous words in the English language are, 'Hi, I'm from the government and I'm here to help.'" |

In all reality Neal I believe we are at that point where politicians need to be honest. For a change. There needs to be a change in course, from promising more to acknowledging that we need to cut back to less. That as much as we would like to fund more here and there or take on yet another problem, that we back off. Back off at least until we have the spending balanced with revenue and some being paid down on the debt. We also need tax reform. As far as the earned income tax fiasco is concerned, we need a living wage and let those who receive it join the rest of us in paying into the revenue stream. I truly believe with a living wage and the exponential jump in economic activity it would spur, that we could pay off the debt and deal with many more problems than we now do. Oh, and I would rather fund private business for the solution that depend on the idiots in government to manage the solutions. |

Ban, Let me get this straight. If there is ever a major disaster in your neighborhood you plan to tell the National Guard to take a hike and you are going to hold out for Haliburton? |

I'm not sure what Haliburton has to do with anything I wrote. But, as far as government causing problems go, I have no problem with the National Guard or the military in general accept if Obama decides he is going to rewrite the goals and methods of our military as he has with Obamacare as it ha affected our health care system. Third world countries like Canada has been able to come up with a simple, straight 1 payer system while Obama and the left has come up with a confusing, over done supra 1000 page law of amendments that few seem to be able to function in. All it's done so far is taking millions off their healthcare plans with any where to go in sight, and increased the premiums of the ones who have found a way. Imagine Obama and the left rewriting our military goals and methods of engagement. The scary part is, he probably thinks he's more capable than are our military leaders. As far as Haliburton goes, I doubt seriously if the need or want a PR campaign manager/organizer of his caliber. |
