We have discussed this before, but we recently got a few statements I thought I would share with you.

My urologist scoped me a month or so ago. He billed $565 for the procedure. And, my Humana Medicare Advantage plan paid $222.47 and I paid a $40 copay.

My dw got a routine colonoscopy the day before turkey day. The hospital billed $5153.66 and her copay was 0. Not, sure if that included the physicians charge or not. Humana paid $762.09. A $4391.57 write off. The anesthesiologist billed $556.50 and got paid $92.55. A $463.95 write off.

I assume that if we had no insurance they would have tried to get the full amount billed from us. It seems crazy high the amount they bill, and it seems crazy low what the insurance company pays. I can't understand why their is such a big difference. Seems a fair charge would be somewhere in the middle.

And your country (most especially the taxpayers) would be paying much less.

That's why the US Right will never allow it.

I have yet to see a sensible cost-saving plan that they would accept, unless we're talking about saving the Billionaire$ some cash...

Most of those protecting the income of the billionaires are unwitting accomplices. Fools think it's about freedom from government. It's got to be the biggest con ever pulled off.

Yes I have never figured how people can be so gullible. They willingly agree with the wealthy paying a lower percentage in taxes for starters. Go figure. We have 2 or 3 on this very forum who appear to be masochists. Maybe this is human characteristic. It could explain why feudalism lasted so long.

So far you guys seem to know quite a bit about health care in the US.

Would you expound on:

1. how the US Right has had more to do with the pre Obamacare health care system in the US than did the US Left..... and

2. how "billionaires fit into the picture?

Also, maybe those who have commented thus far in this thread can explain if the government via Medicare has had anything to do with charges and reimbursement for medical procedures in hospitals.

Ban,

It is my understanding that 33 cents of every dollar we spend in the USA on health care (outside of Medicare) goes to administrative (AKA insurance) costs. The people receiving this money have a very strong interest in keeping the money flood flowing into their pockets.

How about question #1? And who is to say all billionaires benefiting from what you are saying are "Right Wingers?"
