I don't know if he is breaking the law or simply overstepping his authority. Only the supreme court can define what the intent of the law or meaning of any provisions in it. This could be a matter of very few if any knowing the fine print in the law and that the president was given authority in it to tweak it as it went forward. Granted that explanation sounds absurd, but what else could it be? Who in congress or the courts are going to raise the issue? I doubt anybody wants to take the ball out of Obama's hands and then have blame put on them as the reason it crashed and burned.

Let's look at this rationally, the constant tweaking and reversals of how the law was supposed to work, or how we were told it was, only weakens in people's minds any remaining faith they had in it. Right now many are probably saying to themselves, "let's just wait and see how this goes, it keeps changing by the minute so why take any action until the dust settles." Which is a disaster for the insurance companies. They are now stuck with an overloaded demographic of older and diseased applicants and new policy holders. The weight of the young and healthy were supposed to balance out that weight and keep the plans from tipping over. The insurance industry is becoming more vocal by the day over the roll out and constant goal post moves, I can envision many just saying to hell with it and bowing out.

Nobody can say Obama and his supporters of the law weren't warned that this nightmare would occur.

No, only congress has the right to set new taxes. On second thought, he may very well try that one on for size as the constitution doesn't seem to be something he allows to get in the way of his actions.

No, the president's authority is outlined in the constitution. Maybe in that law there was a provision that allowed the government to tweak the roll out. I doubt it and thought I explained my thoughts in the other post. You know how a bully acts, they keep taking and pushing until someone steps up and challenges them. If you challenge President Obama, then his team will frame your actions as the reason the law failed. This is a hot potato that nobody wants a piece of. It's Obama's baby, he has the ball and is running with it, so let him take the full blame.

I think it's in the death spiral but I still don't agree we should let any president change laws.

Pat,

since you claim to be looking at it "rationally," does that imply that those with whom you disagree are looking at it irrationally? If so, that attitude would seem a bit arrogant to me.
