So does GLADD win or reason? In the case of A&E Network a walk out, or waddle out is a major ratings and financial hit. We se Duck Dynasty stuff in stores down here, they are international celebrities. The wife and I tuned into an episode to see what the fuss was all about, I thought the show as a cross between Lil Abner and Beverly Hills Hillbillys. Corny. Anyway, the family patriarch didn't mince words, which is his right, now A&E must make a choice between money and political correctness. Which one wins out? Another thought, if A&E drops the show, I bet Netflix, Hulu, amazon or some up and comer signs the show on. It's a hit and it's not uncommon for one network to pick up a show that another dropped. The Duck Dynasty stars have issued a statement amid the controversy surrounding family patriarch Phil Robertson's anti-gay remarks. The Robertson clan says they "cannot imagine" the show without him, and that they are "in discussions" with A&E about the future of the series. 'Duck Dynasty's' Phil Robertson on Indefinite Hiatus Following Anti-Gay Remarks "We want to thank all of you for your prayers and support. The family has spent much time in prayer since learning of A&E's decision. We want you to know that first and foremost we are a family rooted in our faith in God and our belief that the Bible is His word. While some of Phil’s unfiltered comments to the reporter were coarse, his beliefs are grounded in the teachings of the Bible," reads a statement posted on the family's Duck Commander website. "Phil is a Godly man who follows what the Bible says are the greatest commandments: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart' and 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' Phil would never incite or encourage hate. We are disappointed that Phil has been placed on hiatus for expressing his faith, which is his constitutionally protected right. We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm. We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty. Again, thank you for your continued support of our family." A&E declined comment on the Robertson family's statement. On Wednesday, A&E placed Robertson on indefinite suspension after he made incendiary comments in a recent GQ profile. PHOTOS: 'Duck Dynasty's' Phil Robertson and Other Stars Who've Made Anti-Gay Remarks "We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson's comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty," A&E said in a statement. "His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely." Robertson, however, will likely appear in season four of the show, which premieres Jan. 15, since production is largely wrapped. In the magazine, the reality TV star uses lewd imagery to discuss why he doesn't understand homosexuality, which he goes on to call a sin and compare to bestiality. PHOTOS: 'Honey Boo Boo,' 'Duck Dynasty' and Cable's Blue-Collar Boom "It seems like, to me, a vagina -- as a man -- would be more desirable than a man's anus," Robertson says in the January issue of GQ. "That's just me. I'm just thinking: There's more there! She's got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I'm saying? But hey, sin: It's not logical, my man. It's just not logical." Robertson also is asked what he finds sinful. His answer: "Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men." Robertson on Wednesday released his own statement in response to the controversy: "I myself am a product of the '60s; I centered my life around sex, drugs and rock and roll until I hit rock bottom and accepted Jesus as my Savior. My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the Bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together. However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other." GLAAD on Wednesday condemned Robertson's remarks as "some of the vilest and most extreme statements uttered against LGBT people in a mainstream publication" and later commended A&E for swiftly suspending him. "By taking quick action and removing Robertson from future filming, A&E has sent a strong message that discrimination is neither a Christian nor an American value," GLAAD spokesperson Wilson Cruz said. The Human Rights Campaign and PETA also are among the other organizations that have slammed Robertson. Yet others have come to his defense, including Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Sarah Palin and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, who have argued for Robertson's right to free speech. |

I think they should get support Berton. Duck Dynasty is not on a traditional network like ABC, it's on a pay for view cable channel. You don't have to have cable and you don't have to watch A&E. Even if the network continues with the show, the gays will still watch it, it's entertaining to many people. I think it boils down to the constitutional right to speak your mind and preach what you believe. Millions believe homosexual activity is a sin. |

How was Robertson's right of free speech violated? Did the government arrest him? Robertson was allowed to say what he thought. However doesn't A&E have the right to fire him if they chose? Where in the Constitution does it state that you have the right to say what you wish with consequence? It surprises me Pat to see you join the ranks of those who apparently want to make political points, stir up their base, and ignore the fact that Robertson's right of free speech was in no way violated. If one of your employees made a public statement that you are an abomination (because you don't believe as he does) in the eyes of the lord and therefore anyone who buys your product is doomed to the eternal fires of hell would you accept this as a free speech right? The Constitution protects this employee from arrest by the government. It does not protect him from you terminating him. |

I disagree Ken. There is persecution involved. He had every right to say what he did and we base these rights in our constitution. And they become part of our culture and how we operate. A&E has suspended the character over comments he made which are legal in every respect. As a company they have the right to suspend him and the right to harm their business model in the process. Right now Robinson has lost the soap box that allowed him access to millions and a means of professing his beliefs, in other words the persecution has denied him what he had prior to A&E's actions. How this all works out is the entertaining part I'm following. |

Pat, So you are saying that Robertson's freedom of speech rights trump A&N's right to make a business decision? My understanding is that the Constitution only stops the government from interfering with your right to speak. However there are still limitations such as you can't yell fire in a crowded building etc. A&N provided Roberson with his soapbox and can take it from him if they chose. However there is nothing stopping Robertson from spending some of his own millions and buying some TV air time. He could even start his own "I get to decide who sins" network if he choses. Show me how the government interfered with his right of free speech? Do you have some case decisions that show where a business is not allowed to fire an employee? Do you believe that an employee has the free speech right to wear a Nazi armband in a Jewish School? Edited by campingken, Dec 21 2013, 04:00 AM.

I never once made those claims Ken, re-read my posts. Americans tend to set their actions based in rights outlined in the constitution. But there are consequences that can result. And there are consequences for those who take measures that persecute. |
