A good idea - therefore the Reps won't support it. Unless... Anybody know how to get Obama to say it's stupid? |

Opps, just turned into a "bash the Republicans" thread, Pat. But nice try anyway. |

Sounds too good to be true. There certainly is no shortage of algae. |

Tom, Tried to get more information on the process, found nobody willing to talk about energy input in to the process. At this point my guess is that the process take two to three time the energy it captures to drive it. If you can find a way to drive the manufacture of crude with solar it could be a real winner.

Could it be that the process is a winner Corky and the developers are in the process of filing for a patent? You jumped to the gun before having any facts that would back your guess that it would cost three times the energy it captures. Could it be that the truth is just the opposite? |

Corky's probably correct, although as he says, if you can drive the process with Solar it would be great. But you're also correct, Pat, it should be checked - who knows? |

Pat, Two to three times input to output is a huge improvement over previous processes which took seven to ten times the energy it caputred and the article says that the precess is three to four times more effiecient than what had been seen before. Coupled with solar energy for heating and driving the process the numbers mean that money can be made down to below $60 a barrel crude price. Far from dissing the process I'm looking to invest!!!! Vertical integration with the use of a bad water algae and solar energy to drive it in the desert southwest gives a possible major winner! |

Well I agree that if solar can be the driving force then we might have a perfected process that would make financial sense. I'm ecstatic that while we all wring our hands, that research is ongoing. There is a green solution out there and it will be found. |
