Yes MR, I am a right winger. My DH is now giving his life for his country. That's a little more important than illegal aliens and their kids. They can all pile into their van, adults and kids and leave!! on edit: “Someone who has had their legs blown off in Afghanistan or Iraq, and most likely will not be able to get a second job, is going to lose thousands of dollars in this cost-of-living adjustment and nobody else in the country is so situated.” on edit again: As my colleague Matt Boyle reported, House GOP leaders knew that the pension changes would impact wounded warriors days before the first vote on the budget deal. Amazingly, there was no attempt in the House to change this provision. The term wounded warriors is where it gets a little fuzzy for me. There are hundreds of thousands of wounded warriors who receive compensation from the VA for their service connected disabilities...NOT from the military as a pension. I would hate to see those people subjected to budget cuts or decreases in their monthly compensation. Edited by Bobcatkitty, Dec 20 2013, 12:42 AM.

Hopefully this will allay your concerns, Miss Kitty. "Murray said she would be joining with other senators, including Republicans, to offer a technical fix that exempts disabled veterans and survivors from the COLA cut – after passage of the bill. I doubt that many people will receive as much in retirement pay as military personnel. " a retired sergeant first class of the Army would receive about a 6 percent cut in lifetime pay because of the COLA, but “receive about $1.626 million in lifetime retirement pay instead of $1.734 million”? |

Yep, I think the two correlate. My brother talks of a guy he know that lost his pension at age 80 because the company had been bought out and the new owners raided the pension plan and then folded the company. I think what we need is a bill in congress that places the highest priority on retirement benefits. They being the last areas that can ever be cut. Neal too is right, in nam most of those who served were support and other than being away from home, the guys had it pretty cushy. In reality not much different, the differences being the fact they were in forced servitude away from home. Yet this is true throughout history, a military is made up of combat and non combat forces melding together to perform missions. The obvious difference being the level of threat to the persons life. On another point, someone brought up illegals. I saw in an article a plea to make to easier and to remove the red tape keeping ILLEGALS from signing up for the new health exchanges. I wasn't aware that illegals would be covered under the law, covered in the sense that most would probably qualify for subsidies and or Medicaid. So how do you like those aples, cuts to our retired while funding benefits for illegals. |

You bring up the subject of the thread Pat, we are funding illegals but cutting legal vets. The libs support that. |

for a third time, I reread the OP article. Nowhere does it say any vet will receive less than he or she did last year o this year. Again, the title of the thread is intentional false misleading propaganda by ultra right wing, Powerline. |

Interesting irony in right wing posting and attitudes. If the amount of increase in the National debt is achieved by President Obama's Administration but the total debt continues to rise, that horrid. But if the amount of COLA increase is decreased but the total amount of a person's retirement pay is still increased, that called a "cut" in benefits." That is the ultimate in right wing hypocrisy. |

Spending power is what we talk about when discussing any form of income Colo. What you can exchange the money received for. A cut in the COL is a cut in income since we are not in a deflationary system. I will give this though, nice spin. |
