Uh oh! I've done it now. I guess I could argue about this, because I think I'm right, but it seems I'm in the minority here, but before I bow out of this thread, I would make a couple of observations. One, the vast majority of military personnel are not involved in the most dangerous of situations like combat. Most do things that civilians do every day. Cooks, mechanics, electronics technicians, clerks and others. At what point do we say enough is enough? I would bet that we could give them each a million dollars a year and if somebody suggested we cut that by one dollar some people would object. Ban brings up annual pay, but his example is only base pay and they get other compensation like free medical care, housing allowances if they live off base, food allowances same as above, clothing allowances and other less common perks that most people don't have. I have utmost respect for the guys that do the fighting and would never diss them, but children, who are in danger of being hungry so a person who has enough money to retire can have a little more, seems like misplaced priority to me. You guys on the right ( scuse me Miss Kitty) you folks on the right are all about taking from the poor and giving it to those who don't need it, so we will just have to agree to disagree about this particular topic. |

IOW, the cons here do not give a damn about those who spent their lives serving their companies and, through that service, served their country. I understand. These are the same cons, by the way, who have been crying and moaning in favor of Federal budget cuts. The OP asked the question of vets. I have noticed several "ignored posts by Neutral. I am wondering why he who never was in the military is commenting. He He certainly cannot be commenting on behalf of vets. While I did not attempt to answer on behalf of vets, I responded to the concept of cutting pensions and health care for retired individuals. That is a part of the topic, is sit not? |

Colo is playing his childish game again of pretending he isn't reading me but I am a citizen of this country and I have every right to speak to any matter I want. He wants to silence me but it isn't working. Why not PM Pat again Colo? LOL |

Question for anyone here. Did Neutral just post something on topic, or did he just attempt to insult, again? Of someone tells me his post was not intended as a n insult and that he actually posted something on topic, I will look at his post and then determine if I should remove him from "ignore." |

MR.....you're really telling me my DH doesn't need it?? His service in Viet Nam and the Air Force has resulted in: Diabetes II, stage III Kidney disease, prostate cancer, hearing loss & tinnitus. Yes, he receives a benefit check each month as compensation for his service connected disabilities. I guess you think it's just fine if he fights against these diseases on his own, all for the sake of "the children" of ILLEGAL ALIENS!!!!! Illegals and go home, and I'm sorry to say, MR...you and others like you can go to hell! |

Hmm! You really are a right winger aren't you Miss Kitty? Making up all kinds of stuff that has no facts to back it up. Please tell me where I said anything like what you accused me of. We take care of our veterans and I agree with that, but there has to be a limit. Are you and your husband ( I'm sorry for his health problems) so stretched for cash that you can't absorb a 1% decrease in your cola? Would you prefer to watch an innocent child go hungry so you could have an additional few dollars each month? We have a different opinion about this and I'll refrain from telling you to go to hell, but I think you over-reacted to my comments. |

Interesting. I just went back and reread the OP. It says nothing about cutting any benefits to any veteran. It does talk about not increasing the amount of pensions using a COLA . Bobcatkitty, apparently it has absolutely to do with the medical benefits your husband needs. Nor does it "prioritize " illegal immigrants over vets. Illegal immigrants do not receive COLAs in their non existent government pensions. On edit, it appears that the OP title is just another in a long list of Powwerline's right wing intentionally misleading propaganda crappola. Edited by colo_crawdad, Dec 20 2013, 12:26 AM.

The articles I've read have mentioned disabled veterans, but they seem to be lumped into the veterans that have retired. That really was my question. I'm uncertain if one can received disabled compensation from the military, then turn around and receive it from the VA. What my DH receives is from the VA. Therefore, was just hoping for clarification. |
