We're talking of people who are legal and are serving us in the military.

Are you vets happy about this?

NO! Let me qualify that no. I don't draw any benefits from the military or the VA , but We're talking about a rather small segment of the population who spent their working life protecting our collective butts. Illegals did nothing but sneak into this country and now can get free medical care , welfare ETC. As a country we need to take care of our veterans and so far we're doing a poor job of it. I can quote several cases that I know of personally. As far as the children go ,if we're going to take care of them , that's fine with me , but send their parents packing. I hate to admit it but I'm on the same side as Berton and neutered on this one.

The fact is that many people have seen their "promised" pensions get reduced or even eliminated. This is the new reality for the American worker.

Does anyone actually know who what and how much is being cut? The smart move is to learn the facts before you panic.

The deal cuts pension cost of living raises by one percentage point for military retirees who aren't disabled and not yet 62 years old.

We're talking about kids, Ban. They have no choice about being illegal aliens or not. Who else gets to retire after 20 years with all those benefits? People who join the military today, do it voluntarily. I was in the Navy from 1959-1965, which included 2 years active 3 years active reserve and 1 year inactive reserve. I was Airman, E3. An E3 today with 2 years of service makes $1900/mo.. Converting that $94 to today's dollars comes out to $534/mo..

Public employees! Teachers, government employees, most all get to retire after twenty years with benefits and they all volunteered to do what they do.... nobody drafted them. Occupational risk very low compared.

If your active duty was from 1959-1960, and you made $94 from 1960 to today comes to $740/month according to this site, plus living expenses.

I doubt that a Navy E3 at two years gets that much more than a Army E3 at two years. Using my Go Army link, an E3 at two years is paid $1787/month. The military didn't have much trouble recruiting in our day, the draft was there. Now, the military has to use more incentive to get the personnel they need because of the job risk and family separation. They don't have much time to sit on the porch and watch the world go by.

Either way, that's sure not one would call "heavily compensated" as you said. I have to agree pretty much with Wanderingjays.

Just another Colo diversion.
We are talking about the priority of Dems to choose money to go to illegals rather than people who have served our country.

But isn't that one difference between the public employer and private employer?

Isn't that how local, state and federal government employers got into financial trouble, providing benefits that they weren't able to honor. Cities like Detroit go bankrupt. Private companies (except for GM) either cuts back because of more tough times or burdensome regulations than they can handle and cuts either their work force or their benefits...... to stay in business. Cities that don't go bankrupt, like Detroit. Businesses that don't, go bankrupt (again, GM the exception). The Federal government just keep printing and borrowing; but, we all know that unless it too turns itself around (cuts back on services and/or benefits), will suffer the symptoms of bankruptcy; and in this case, apparently retired veterans and their families before illegal aliens and their families.

Lookout MR, nothing makes me more angry than our government (and other fools) turning their backs on those who served their country. And how much a retired or disabled veteran has as income is irrelevant to this situation.

But my question to Neut or Berton: Does is decrease affect those receiving VA disability only? My DH receives no military pension as he was in the AF for 4 years + 2 inactive.
