Do your own research for once. The military is saying it's not good but nice attack on Fox and me. You support illegals over vets, bottom line. The Reps tried to add an amendment, the Dems would no do it. |

Cons support the military when they are in uniform fighting while their kids stay home. Once the vet returns to a con he has all the value of a empty disposable lighter. Perhaps Neut should review the Walter Reed etc. vet hospital conditions that happened when the veteran loving cons were in the drivers seat. However I don't think that Fox would be "fair and balanced" about this.. |

The fact is the cons tried to give the vets their money and the Dems would not pass the amendment. All the BS doesn't change the facts. |

Here is my objection and it's based on vulnerability and moving the goal posts. If you served long term, the stress on your life and family was balanced against the promise of retirement security down the line. In fact that was the overall lure to most public sector jobs, and this at a time when the pay was below private sector rates. By focusing on retirees, those that gave their working life with this understanding is disgusting. The very government they fought to defend was so fiscally irresponsible that now it comes back to them for a second dose of sacrifice. How is an older retired vet supposed to compensate for the loss of cost of living raises? And let's not kid ourselves, the manner the rate of cost of living is calculated is absurd. I can see changing pay and benefit contracts for new enlistees. They can then make a determination whether this is a temporary ends to a means or something they can hitch onto with the benefits down the line outweighing risk and sacrifice. |

I agree with that Pat, but I would need to know how much the vets already receive. Aren't they also receiving free medical care, Social Security, etc? Us older people paid into SS and Medicare too, and we only get a small increase in our COLA this year and have had next to nothing the previous several years. Veterans are heavily compensated while on active duty and in retirement in contrast to what we received when I was in the military. I got the freebies, but only made $94/month after 6 years of active duty and reserve time. There has to be a limit on how much we can pay military retirees, just as there has to be a limit on how much non-military retirees receive. |

What service have the "illegal aliens" performed ... compared to "retired veterans?" Retired vets with sufficient benefits would suggest that they must have served 20 years or a medical discharge from combat injuries? That $94 pay per month would suggest that you were receiving an E1 or E2 pay. What years in the 50s did you serve? I looked at the pay scale for today's Army E1, E2, E3 and I can't see where you can say that they would be "heavily compensated." Link |

Bottom line, Dems prefer funding illegals over the military. |

We're talking about kids, Ban. They have no choice about being illegal aliens or not. Who else gets to retire after 20 years with all those benefits? People who join the military today, do it voluntarily. I was in the Navy from 1959-1965, which included 2 years active 3 years active reserve and 1 year inactive reserve. I was Airman, E3. An E3 today with 2 years of service makes $1900/mo.. Converting that $94 to today's dollars comes out to $534/mo.. |
