Wasn't Jesus convicted of a religious crime?

Sea Dog, are you going to answer me? I answered you.

A Base of what?

If I told you that I knew a guy who heard voices, only hung out with men, and that they liked to rub oil on each others feet and hair you would probably think that he was a mentally ill gay guy living in San Francisco. Add the info that he was tried in a court of law then executed and I very much doubt that you would consider him a role model for your children.

Not a valid point Ken, Christianity has a base, Kwanzaa doesn't.

Shouldn't you have to look through the lens of the times.

Good point.
on the other hand, why should the
thoughts of the times be taken as gospel?

Would you want to be treated by a doctor
using only methods from two thousand years ago?

A lot of people follow a guy who's claim to fame
was that he died for three days and came back to life!

Do you think he did anything else?

No, I believe that he was convicted of displeasing the government of the day.

This still does not make him any more than an ordinary man,
albeit a rabble rouser.

You need to read about it then Sea Dog. He was not convicted by the "government" of the day.

Why are you afraid to answer my question Sea Dog?

I am neither pro not anti Jesus. However over the years I have dealt with many people who claimed that they were in direct contact with God. The end results was often a one way ride to a mental health hospital.

If another Jesus appeared today and started preaching on street corners I wonder how he would be received.

Pat,

When I worked in the black community the people I spoke with told me that they wanted to establish their own traditions just like the Europeans did with Christmas. Kwanza is about values and family.
Makes sense to me Ken. I think they started their own language too, eubonics or something like that.

I have been doing quite a bit of research lately on ancient man and the migration paths they took. I sent off for a DNA kit from the National Geographic sponsored study on the human geonome, I'll be receiving a very detailed report that will trace the origin of my genes and where my ancestors wandered after leaving East Africa. I listened to some blacks talk about the subject and was struck by the fact that they don't know where the hell they came from. Their history can be traced about 5 generations, the rest lost in time as they were traded into slavery. One young black was shocked when his test results showed that for most of his gene pools time, it had been spend in Europe, right up until very recent times. He was as white or more so than you or I probably are. I say this because I can emphasis with blacks who have no roots, no shared ancient culture that they are aware of. To belittle the few celebrations and attempts at identifying and creating a shared culture now is pretty mean spirited in my opinion. Even a racist should cut them some slack in my opinion.
Wonderful post Pat. :toasting:
