The admins on this board will not go after the lib problem, I know why Mike won't but not sure about Pat. We have proved time and again that if the libs would not insult there would not be insults. Now it's whatever for me.

Pat, have you,
or any of your kids,

been in the position
of desperately needing a job with a living wage?

The multi generation family business
with which I am familiar,
The kids fell into their jobs with varying degrees of success.

Applying for work with hat in hand,
is not part of the process!

Not in my immediate family, I have a younger cousin who fell off the deep end and self destructed. It wasn't from a lack of opportunity or family backing. I hope you are not implying that those who were afforded opportunities in a family business were incompetent or unworthy of the position. That was never the case as far as I can tell. I don't know anything other than the family structure I and the rest of us were raised and developed in, but I do know what the outcome generally is if such a situation exists.
Pat.
My point is,
it is much simpler to prosper in a successful family business
than to fight your way up the ladder.

I believe it is known as
as being a member of the lucky sperm club.

Pat,
In a family business you can be absolutely mundane and still become well paid and management if you have the proper genes. For most of us working to the max will get you only as far as you deserve for your talents, but the proper genes in a family business will get you to the top if you can only avoid screwing up excessively.

Not pointing at Pat,
however, anyone born into a
well to do family and a successful
multi generation business,
cannot possibly understand the
problems of the ordinary citizen.

A stable family structure, a guaranteed
good education, a job for life,

A far cry from the situation that many
of us found ourselves in when we were born!

Oh I agree, which is why I advocate for a strong paternal based family structure and family trusts. I don't know anything about you or your family other than you have what appears to be a highly successful business in or around San Diego. Were you to lay the ground work for a trust that manages the estate and makes it impossible for future generation to dissolve the assets or businesses you established, over time and the evolvement of the businesses and management, your family would have it's own sustainable economic system. A system and culture that educates and develops the offspring with a means to attain their own success while orbiting the base. It's worked for thousands of years yet is ignored for the most part. A good read would be "House of Roschchild".

It is almost a given that a family owned business will not survive
more than three or four generations.
Each succeeding batch of kids has it easier than those before,
it is only a matter of time until the playboy attitude sets in
and the party animal blows the works!

Are you speaking from experience? There are many, many, many examples that go against your statement. I believe it depends on the system in place.

No, I am not speaking from experience.
I do, however, know of cases where the
exact scenario took place.

One in particular, a business that had been in operation
since the turn of the century,
The boys ran out, a son in law took over,
broke the business, around two hundred employees
in less than ten years!

It sounds like the family structuring broke down and allowed one voice to drown out others. You never place the family trust in the hands on one family member.

I am not too interested in a situation where others
have input into my decisions.
