Caring for Canada’s seniors will take our entire health care workforce

Much of the focus on the health care needs of Canada’s aging population surrounds the shortage of physicians with expertise in care of older adults. But the country’s 75,000 licensed physicians represent only a small part of the Canadian health care workforce. By contrast, there are approximately 360,000 regulated nurses, 35,000 social workers, 30,000 pharmacists, 17,000 physiotherapists, 13,000 occupational therapists and 10,000 dietitians in Canada, and about 90,000 personal support workers employed in Ontario alone. Improving care for Canadian older adults will undoubtedly require educating and engaging the entire health care workforce.

It is a problem. Part of it is sex. Most doctors graduating these days are women, and they tend not to want to put in the traditional long hours and do inconvienient things like have babies. The baby boomers bewcomign seniors is huge issue and helatyh care is only one aspect of it. I predict there will be a worker shortage in all sorts of fields as the bulk of the boomers reach retirement. The leading edge of it is only just entering retirement. It's a time bomb. I suspect the void will have to be filled with immigration which brings it sown issues, however The developed western world is where the boomer phenomena was, not places that are soruces of potential immigrants like China & India. The demand for services form "non-productive" boomers is going to strain the economies of Canada, the US, Japan & Europe in particular

Really, then produce another example please. In other words, put up or shut up.

I know you can't, BTW, because as far as I know, I only forgot a link one time.

Pat provided a link and the diversion began.
No, Pat's OP was about Canadian health care. Then he started talking about Australia and how much better they handle things than Canada or the US.
Sorry for the late response, life is going on and the time zone differences. Let me give you an example Brew of what I was getting at, and this difference, and in my opinion refreshing way of doing things, seems to extend throughout the country.

Immigration:

You know what policies are in North America and Europe. I just had a lady from England talk my ear off about the Romain-Gypsy problems they are facing. Illegal immigration is a major problem because it literally sucks the marrow out of a nation's bones in so many ways. Here in Aussieland there are an estimated 50-80,000 TOTAL illegals. Many are from America but some from other regions. Here they really are serious about keeping unpermitted people from joining or continuing working illegally. There is no catch and release policy. Now say you want to come here and live or you claim to be a refugee. You file the papers and you have ONE year to PROVE proficiency in reading, writing and speaking English. Social welfare is for citizens but some emergency care is available on a temporary basis. As the illegal or unqualified cry big alligator tears, Aussie immigration officers load them in a bus for the airport and escort them to the plane with the one way ticket back where they came from. End of story. Oh, and Muslim extremists? Forget about it, you blend in or you leave.

Healthcare for the visitors is expensive but the facilities are first class. I did not or should I say I have not heard a single gripe about quality of care of long lines.

The country and it's laws just make sense. If you ask someone about one they look at you with inquiring eyes. And then you are asked what is wrong with it. lol. Oh by the way for the Canadians, Aussie's are all over Canada during vacation times. Not so much America.

Hmm! Not so according to this chart. US is number three destination and Canada isn't even listed.

"But it’s illegal immigrants that are a problem in Australia. An average of 3,000 “boat people” were arriving monthly this past spring, and roughly 30,000 await rulings on their requests for asylum."

Arriving but not integrating into society. It's all about the process.
