Pat provided a link and the diversion began.
No, Pat's OP was about Canadian health care. Then he started talking about Australia and how much better they handle things than Canada or the US.

Interesting.

I make a rather neutral, factual comment on the history of Health Care in Canada, pointing out the policy was a failure in that it caused huge wait times. You'd think someone from the US Right would remember and agree with that - they used to bring it up regularly as a reason not to go to "Socialist" Health Care.

But then I finished on a positive note, saying we gained some new medical knowledge we couldn't get internally.

And Ban thinks I'm "Blaming" Martin/Harper?

I was simply pointing out that Pat's diversion couldn't be taken seriously, considering the source of his information. But as MR says, that was originally Pat's diversion, not ours.

BTW, what's with the constant B*tching from the US Right about diversion anyway? It's only natural for conversations like this to wander around.

Even in this country medical school slots are limited for no other reason than ensuring graduates won't have to have a lot of competition for jobs and income. Groups like the AMA lobby to keep policies like this in place. One reason we have so many foreign Dr.'s.

Pat provided a link? I just went back through the entire thread and could not locate it. Care to re-post that link, Ban?

BTW, why is asking for a link "diversion." I believed that Pat didn't make the whole post up and I believed that Zetaboards had some rules about providing links. .

Explain to me how Canada can keep medical school tuition so low?
Answer: By limiting the proportion of medical school costs covered by tuition.

Explain to me why it is wise to accept into residency programs students who couldn't even gain acceptance in medical school back home?

Answer: By demanding a high level of competency in order to be accepted for residency.

A classmate of mine at college in New York who was unable to get into a U.S. medical school in the 1960s attended medical school in Italy. This is nothing new. He's been practicing medicine in the U.S. ever since.

I find it interesting that your post shows that some, who are not able to get residency in Canada, are forced to take a lesser residency in the U.S..

Rikin Patel, who went to medical school at St. George’s University in Grenada, reflects on the “long road” that he took prior to obtaining his current pediatrics residency position at Memorial University in Newfoundland. Patel went through multiple cycles of medical school applications in Canada before deciding to study medicine abroad. He then competed against hundreds of doctors for his residency position and considers himself lucky to have obtained a spot. Many of his colleagues from St. George’s were unable to secure coveted residency positions in Canada, and completed their training in the United States.

Wow! Pat asked for explanations and Ima provided them. I wonder if Pat will accept them.
