Do you think there is a snow balls chance in hell of Obamacare ever being repealed; Paul Ryan thinks so

The only reason we didn't go to single payer was the financial power of the health insurance industry and for profit providers to influence congress. Obama Care (The Affordable Care Act) is really a moderate Republican plan. It won't go away, but will be tweaked over time. Many of the GOP governors have seen the writing on the wall and are getting on board with the expansion of medicaid and the setting up of the insurance exchanges.

If Europe is now saying that single payer healthcare is busting the budget and untenable in the future, then what should America do to nip that in the bud before we would have the same experience? Americans detest higher federal taxes and are being gouged at the state and local level right now. How I see this is that some on this board and others in general want a superior healthcare experience but are unwilling to pay for it. This just gets back to the freebie mentality and willingness to pass the buck to future generations. My guess is that some here couldn't pay for the healthcare they now receive in medicare if it were not picked up by others. They didn't plan well for the future and now want even more of a free ride. I just don't agree with this type of life philosophy. People refuse to put big boy pants on, it's really that simple.

Two words, TERMINAL CARE!

When we get to the point of honest discussion of that, we will be on the way to taming the medical costs!

That statement is unfair Pat. Many thought they had their ducks all in order, then got the rug pulled out from under them due to economic circumstances. I thought the company I retired from would furnish me lifetime health care benefits, with the possibility that over time I would have to pay more out of pocket. I suppose I could have put away a pile of money just in case they failed. But, even then when the stock market took a hit, that pile of money would have diminished considerably. My point is you can plan and CYA and still get blindsided.

That statement is untrue and stupid. And, is not supported by the evidence.

It is true and is supported by much evidence.

Your select evidence from your alternate right wing reality.

Kind of like your GW denier evidence.

Is "Europe" saying that or are some conservatives in Europe saying that?

Finance ministers and those watching the budget. There is not enough money coming in to pay for the services rendered. I had a good experience in Germany, but I paid for it. Single payer is probably a more efficient manner to handle paying for coverage, the problem is as I related above, Americans and Europeans are not willing to pay for the level of service being rendered. There is a growing deficit. Were a health tax evenly leveled against those using the service, or for those unable to pay, their share picked up by others, then this cost could be funded. And the tax would need to be progressive as the cost of healthcare rises. This could be managed. But this process is not going to happen because Americans want a free ride like the Europeans.
