It's ALL either lies or exaggerations.

And we have to move to other exports. Is that considered a surprise?

Nobody's saying the Oilsands are clean, Ban, but your Video starts out with a lie - that they cover an area the size of England.

While it's true that the total area contining Oil-Bearing Bitumen is about the same at 140,000 Sq Km as I said, they "forgot " to mention that only 2% is actually going to be open pit mined.

When a video or article starts with a lie, it's hard to give credence to the rest of it.

Oh, and by the way, even if we were going to strip mine every part of it, including that under the cities, indian reservations, parts nowhere near water or transport, etc., it still wouldn't total 1/3 of the province.

Oh, and DO read the comments - much of the land is being reclaimed, with the poisonous bitumen removed, making it better for fish, wildlife, native populations, etc.

While it's still a negative operation, and I wish it would stop, it's not near as bad as many other operations.

But according to all you greenies that is not possible. It is poisoned and will always be poisoned.

The contribution of the tar sands to global warming,... ALL lies, all exaggeration. Why doesn't Canada just force a shut down. Do they hear your concerns up there Brew? What good does it do to keep posting here? Gather your global warming enthusiasts together and put pressure on Canada's government to do something. I'd have to believe that there must be majority of Canadians who don't see a future in Canada if their carbon energy contribution is shut down... or it would be sooooo regulated that it couldn't afford to operate..... like we're doing to our coal industry down here. Those kinds of action are painful to the miners of these states:

•Wyoming: 438.67, 40%
•West Virginia: 134.66, 12%
•Kentucky: 108.77, 10%
•Pennsylvania: 59.18, 5%
•Texas: 45.90, 4%

Yes, more recently natural gas (a cleaner form of energy) in the US has had its affect on coal but regulations helped. The Canadian "warmists" must take the bull by the horns and force the government to enforce carbon energy regulations to choke out the industry. Start at home and set an example for the world. All these years the US has bought the Canadian tar sands oil (if not the US then China), now Canada can shut down it's tar sands and buy US natural gas if it can't supply enough of it's own... but shutting the tar sands down and repairing the environment would be a tremendous contribution and leadership show to the world that the world environment can be improved. A chance for Canada and it's people to be leaders in reducing global carbon contamination that leads to global warming and not just complainers; and besides, Canada is very close to those melting ice caps, you'll have more lakes than you know what to do with. You've got to start at home first before you'll be listened to by the world.

...because Harper's electoral base is in Alberta.
Selling crude oil is (for the time being) a very lucrative business and Albertans clearly benefit from this black gold mine. Good for them, it has given Albertans wealth and a reason to close their eyes on the not so nice picture.
... If harper ever decided to close the black gold valve, he'd be history in no time.

Yes, thank goodness, someone is being practical. I think all of Canada benefits from their energy business and not only Harper would continue it, I would think the majority of Canadians would wish to continue it as it would be so costly in so many ways for the business to be shut down now or in the near future. It's the lesser of two evils. In time maybe, some significant, workable alternative will be efficiently developed and pause should be given to pointing fingers elsewhere.
