This is what our educated liberals here in our universities are saying about the tar sands:

Nobody's saying the Oilsands are clean, Ban, but your Video starts out with a lie - that they cover an area the size of England.

While it's true that the total area contining Oil-Bearing Bitumen is about the same at 140,000 Sq Km as I said, they "forgot " to mention that only 2% is actually going to be open pit mined.

When a video or article starts with a lie, it's hard to give credence to the rest of it.

Oh, and by the way, even if we were going to strip mine every part of it, including that under the cities, indian reservations, parts nowhere near water or transport, etc., it still wouldn't total 1/3 of the province.

Oh, and DO read the comments - much of the land is being reclaimed, with the poisonous bitumen removed, making it better for fish, wildlife, native populations, etc.

While it's still a negative operation, and I wish it would stop, it's not near as bad as many other operations.

We can only hope that president Obama vetoes the Keystone Pipeline. We don't need that crap coming through our country simply because Canada won't allow it to run through theirs. If they have to have the jobs and revenue, let them build it to the West coast through Canadian land.

It's not my video. And I certainly don't speak for UC of Berkely; but every real environmentalist knows that the oil sands is a carbon emission source bed. But we understand that your economy depends on it which justifies the mess.

No, it doesn't totally justify the mess.

It needs to be shut down. There's far better ways to get energy.

But it's bad enough on its own. Posting false, exaggerated statistics and lying videos does not help the situation.

We WILL shut it down - eventually.

Yes, those 20 or so new permanent jobs will make all the difference.

And the Kochs need the money.

I suppose you need to separate the lies from the truth in the video or in the article from Berkely and show where any of it changes the fact that 25% of Canada's GDP depends on carbon fuel and it's emissions.
