Crime and Murder is Up in Canada It's beginning to look as though Mexico is not such a bad place to go to... some have already done that. Honor Killings on the Rise in Canada I suppose that all comes with immigration... legal immigration at that. I suppose the next bad news will be that the environmentalists and anti-global warming enthusiasts are successful in shutting down Canada's carbon energy industry... ponder that for a minute, the economy and unemployment increasing if that happened... 25% of GDP down the tubes. Trends! Time and Tides! Ya just can't stop 'em. |

411 murders in Detroit, not even 1/3 of Chicago. 39 in Winnipeg, most in Canada. Winnipeg and Detroit are about the same size. Yup, Canada's a dangerous place. Edited by Brewster, Mar 7 2013, 03:52 AM.

Well, we all already know that more of this kind of thing is done more in the US, we had a head start. But you just can't argue with the figures, I just hate to see it happening in Canada. I have a liberal neice with a PhD who married a wealthy family guy from Ontario who bikes for a living and just moved into their new huge home, but still doing their part crying out for the poor and down trodden and I worry about their safety. Yes, it's becoming more dangerous with time... and dirty as well if you consider the 1/3 of Alberta that is a cesspool.... but those things happen and have a way of creeping up on you. I just can't help being concerned. We don't worry here, we have guns. |

That DOES account for a large part of the difference. According to this graph, and the stat that says there were 39 murders in 2012, Winnipeg is gaining 50% more murders per decade. ![]() If Winnipeg maintains that pace, in another 200 years or so, maybe it'll have 10 times the murders it does now, and will catch up to Detroit's present figures. But by then, I expect the US will be one continuous coast-to-coast shooting spree. Because you have guns. Detroit's murder rate higher in 2012 than when it was the Murder Capitol Edited by Brewster, Mar 7 2013, 05:11 AM.

Well, I was going to allow Ban a little exaggeration. But just for the heck of it, let's work it out - Alberta's total area is 661,848 Sq Km. The total area in Alberta with Oil Bearing Bitumen is 140,000 Sq Km. But by far the largest portion of that is unavailable for open pit mining, due to lack of transport, water, power, proximity to sensitive areas, cities, depth of Bitumen, etc. The actual area available is 2% of the total, or 2,800 Sq Km. 2800/661848*100 = 0.42%. Gee, Ban was only a little bit off... Edited by Brewster, Mar 7 2013, 05:10 AM.
