Wonder if she actually asked people why they are leaving or she just guessed it was due to taxes and home values. |

No snow and a cold day here is in the 50's. I pay $1300 a year in property taxes on a house valued at more than $750,000, yeah taxes are exorbitant. |

But, Corky, you've been telling us how unfair taxes are in California, due to prop ?. New owners paying far more than owners who have been there for years. That surely would have some impact on low income people. That and high home prices. |

Talking about high taxes. I pay $1100 on a house valued at $43000 here in this little Nebraska town. Compare that to your home value. |

Cork, your $750,000 home might could only sell for $43,000 in MR's part of Nebraska..... and you'd be losing on the taxes too. Or, turn that around... move MR's house to your neck of the woods in California and it just appreciated to a $350,000 home. At last MR is upper middle class. Tax the hell out of him. ![]() Edited by Banandangees, Mar 6 2013, 09:09 PM.

I think middle class is hard to define. Does it depend on the value of assets or income? I have some assets, but very little income compared to what I had when I was working. I might be the poorest person on this board if it is related to income. Maybe, even if related to assets. My net worth was cut in half when my wife and I separated. The thing to me is whether or not I'm happy with my life and I am, so more income, while it would be welcome, isn't that important to me. I absolutely could not afford to live in CA. Unlike conservatives, I don't mind paying a little more tax if it helps the country out of this fiscal problem. |

LOL! No, she was near penniless when we married. Her idea for a product that we could turn into a business is what got us out of near poverty. We didn't make a fortune, but we can live comfortably based on our definition of comfortable. Pat, oth, would probably be appalled at our life style. |

There seems to be a lot of information showing people are leaving California because of the tax situation there: LINK |
