Holder's mistake was trying to have honest dialog with Rand Paul. Big mistake.
That may well be the best post yet on this thread.

You guys are upset because he said that it is "possible??" Pat were you also upset with Bush's taking the Presidential powers "boldly where no President has gone before?"
No I was livid when Bush did that. but he is a lib so I guess it was expected. Control and loss of personal freedom is their manifesto. :teeth: Now tell me how two wrongs make a right?

Were you guys as concerned when Bush sent Air Force planes to shoot down that plane they thought might have been headed for the White House or Capitol on 9/11? What's the difference?
Are you going to now resort to a strawman in defense of this action, or lambast it Neal. Which side are you on?

I can't imagine any circumstance that would make it legal to execute an American citizen on American soil without due process.
Yep, unconstitutional. Now please send a note to our former constitutional law professor explaining to him the constitution. He must have snoozed in class.

I wonder if some on the the right are projecting. Just because the Bush Administra released a statement that torture was legal and used that to justify the use of torture, doesn't mean that the Democrats, announcing that using drones against Americans is legal will then use drones against Americans. As Someone already posted, one has to look at the complete statements.

On the other hand, I too can think of situations when the use of drones against Americans might be justified. For example if a group of right wing folks actually took up arms against their own freely elected government, and mine, paramilitary force ought to be met with military force.
No, some of us are addressing the liberal strawmen in this thread.

How about an airplane, hijacked by terrorists, on its way to crash into your house? Would that qualify?
Strawman. reducing to the ridiculous. Come on Neal.

Except that is not what Holder was speaking about.
You are correct Holder was talking "hypothetically" about terrorist attacks."
Do you have evidence to support that analysis?

Apples and oranges. The Bush actually took those actions to legalize and use torture, to invade privacy with warrantless searches and attempting to shoot down an airliner. The Obama Administration has suggested that hypothetically drones might me used in a dire emergency. The Obama Administration has taken no action other than think a rational discussion could be engaged in with Rand Paul.

Listen Colo, we know all about Bush, that was years ago. Right now the threat is Obama, can you understand that concept? Your guy is eroding our friggin constitutional protections and thinks it's grand to whack you with a drone. And we know all about the misfire of drones in Afghanistan. Are citizens on our soil now going to be considered just collateral damage?
