Seffner Florida near Tampa. This guy is in his bedroom sleeping when the bedroom floor opens up and drops him into oblivian. Sink holes are pretty common in many areas of Florida. What a way to go, never would have thought of that one. |

I read an update on it today. They figure he is dead. When it first happened he was screaming for help, and his brother tried to get to him, but couldn't. Apparently it was a small sinkhole that swallowed him up. I know they don't have basements in Florida, but a ratwall perimeter with the floor supported by joists would have saved him. Of course in that case the sinkhole may have gone undetected until it swallowed the whole house. The old expression, "tie a board to your a-s to keep from falling in", has new meaning.

I can't help but feel bad for the poor guy in Florida who fell into the sink hole. The irony is this: I used to always remark about people who were so afraid of bad things happening that they'd be better off staying in bed hiding under the covers. This guy was doing just that. Went to bed, safe and warm and asleep. And then the Earth opened up and took him. Sheesh. When it's your time to go I guess there's really nowhere to hide, is there? |

I figured Jack would pipe in and add this as another reason to sell his place in Florida. What a state---overrun with monster size Pythons and alligators. Bugs everywhere and did I mention brutal summers. And now the ground is literally swallowing up people while in bed. On the news it showed the fire rescue guys, they have condemned the property and say it is too dangerous to enter the house again. What a way to go. Good seeing your post Eric, I was wondering where you went. |

I told my wife if we ever build a new home for ourselves here I’m going to go way overboard on the interior slab so we have a chance riding it down. You never know when your time is just up I guess... |

I just saw on the evening news last night that they aren't going to be able to recover the body, it is just too dangerous. The sinkhole is growing, and they are evacuating the houses nearby. They showed a map of known sinkholes in that part of Florida and it was quite extensive. And, said it was known as sinkhole alley. |

My question to the county is this, why were houses allowed to be constructed on top of known sink hole areas? |
