These pictures.... they are NOT an exaggeration. Our youth, and even many adults, the world is passing them by and they are totally unaware. These texting cell phones are the worse thing that ever happened to our young folks...... and they hate to be interrupted by some member of the family daring to carry on a conversation about their day. It's sort of like us old fogies, on these forums. :33:

Probably, when the wheel was invented,
old farts everywhere said the world was
going to hell in a handbasket.

I'm not sure the source, but think it might have been in the two volume collection of Harlan Ellison's TV review columns in the LA Free Press - "The Glass Teat" and "The Other Glass Teat." The author expressed surprise after a couple appearances on talk shows with a live audience that most of the audience members watched the show on the many monitors scattered around the studio rather than the live action taking place in front of them.

These columns were written in the 60s and early 70s.

We are seeing the same thing with new technology. Now we can carry our studio monitors around with us and put a layer of electronics between ourselves and the real world.

If it appears on our electronic devices it (whatever it may be) becomes more real. An example is the quote from Einstein. He never said it. But we accept the attribution because we see it on our screens.

de omnibus dubitandum.... Doubt everything

My Daughter texts my Grand Daughter when it's time for dinner or just to chat. They are both in the same house. They all have thumbs of doom.

I've witnessed similar site as the photos depict--we all have. It was the same in Europe. We now have new causes of accidental death, death by cell phone use. I doubt it is on the death certificate, but true none the less. I read where a woman was texting while walking and walked in front of a bus. Another of a college coed falling into a deep manhole. Both perishing in the process. We even have sexting now for those more amorous. I will say that I enjoy Skype.

Deaths of younger teen drivers increased sharply in the first six months of last year, reversing a decade-long trend, according to a report released Tuesday by state highway safety officials.

Deaths of 16- and 17-year-old drivers in traffic accidents in the first six months of 2012 were up a combined 19 percent over the same period in the previous year, according to the report from the Governors Highway Safety Association.

Makes you wonder if the texting and smart phones have something to do with it.

I'm an avid cyclist, and it terrifies me to think if all the nitwits surfing, texting and facebooking while driving. Young people don't realize the danger to themselves and others.
