Yep. I've had an enlarged prostate for years, but my PSA level had remained low until about a year ago, when it suddenly became elevated to an alarming level. That's when my PA recommended I see a Urologist. |

Yes you should have both test annually if you are over 50. PSA is not covered by medicare (about $25) in BC but if your dad has had prostrate cancer it is. I think the radiation decision depends on age. At 71 I think it is probably the best course. My dad also underwent testosterone suppression to slow it down in the earlier stages. |

MR hang in there and good luck. I would take all the treatment available to wake up every day. A lot of folks have beaten your problem and reading your posts you seem to be one that qualifies. |

I was wondering, if Telco's dad was 80 and MR is 71 and in good physical condition, the nearly 10 years difference (at those ages) might give MR a better tolerance to and better rebounding vigor from the fatigue radiation treatment can bring. Mr, I was just curious, did you have your prostate surgery in Atlanta before you left or in Nebraska after you got there? |

http://www.diseaseproof.com/archives/prostate-cancer-dr-fuhrmans-diet-advice-for-prostate-health.html Since you are in good shape otherwise, I would at the very least add nutrition to the formula. And help the body fight the cancer cells with it's immune system, which is how the body is meant to be. High meat intake diets with little fruit and raw vegetables have contributed to most cancers according to the experts. Get yourself a good juicer and begin adding a couple of 15 oz glasses of juice to your daily diet, your appetite will be handled because with juice you are getting 95% of the nutrients without trying to eat that many vegetables. Kale, collard greens mustard greens, carrots, beets, green apples, lemons, ginger root, tomatoes, wheat grass, parsley, chard, make the drinks green. Lots of vegetables. The above link is to Dr. Fuhrman's blog, he has some great books on nutrition. You asked for a third option, this is one not mentioned and works. An unhealthy body/cells is not the best way to fight off cancer or any other disease. Our American/ Western European diets are killing us but we don't have to continue that path. |

Thanks, guys, I needed the encouragement. Retired, waking up is my favorite thing to do. Ban, I had the surgery in Grand Island, NE. Pat, you're right about the nutrition. That's one of the things I need to discuss with the oncologist. I really never thought I would live this long. My dad, one of four brothers, was the oldest to die at age 63. The others died in their 50's, all of heart attacks. So, I consider myself ahead of the game and whatever happens, I've had a good life. Not that I expect to die any time soon of this cancer. As someone said, it's a slow growing cancer and I probably have a few years left unless my heart quits. There are side effects to the radiation and I'm dreading that, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

The fact of the matter is everyone will get cancer if they live long enough. |
