The Romney Atlas

OK this explains. A page from the Mormon approved Romney World Atlas, published on Kolob which is actually a close parallel Earth.. As you can see Iran is landlocked except for the Caspian Sea and the Sea of Iraq which are in reality, just large lakes. However Iranian shipping can easily get to the sea via the Sea of Iraq and the Syrian Canal.

Mitt was correct. He just thought he was on Kolob, not Earth.

From the Wiki on Kolob:
Quote:

Kolob is a star or planet described in Mormon scripture. Reference to Kolob is found in the Book of Abraham, a work published by Joseph Smith, Jr., the founder of the Latter Day Saint movement. According to this work, Kolob is the heavenly body nearest to the throne of God. While the Book of Abraham refers to Kolob as a "star", it also refers to planets as stars, and therefore, some LDS commentators consider Kolob to be a planet.

Kolob has never been identified with any modern astronomical object and is not recognized by scholars as a concept associated with any ancient civilization. Kolob is rarely discussed in modern LDS religious contexts, but it is periodically a topic of discussion in criticism of Mormonism. The idea appears within LDS culture, including an LDS hymn about it.

I can see the hymns once Mormonism becomes the national religion, lovely pieces like "Rock of Kolob, Cleft for me" or "A Mighty Kolob is our god".

So they are not sure if Kolob is a star or a planet. Apparently the Mormon god can't tell whether a body has nuclear fusion taking place or not. Not too bright, that Mormon god.

Are the 57 states close by? I don't see them on the map.

Check Snopes on the "57 states" error.

He said it once in a very tired moment - a verbal slip.

Romney has said versions of his "slip" several times - he needs new anti slip grips on his tongue.

I didn't notice Romney slipping up when he mentioned the 46 mil on food stamps. Nobody cares about verbal flubs, not when they are hungry and in need of a decent job. This is just more fluff.

Then why did you bring it up?

Actually, mentioning the 46 mil on food stamps was also a flub - if Bush hadn't created the situation and the Reps hadn't blocked any cure, it wouldn't be an issue.
