Yes, we don't have to worry about Iran mining the straight of Hermuz anymore, Mitt just eliminated it along with the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea.

I have now sat through half of this debate. Obama is definitely winning this one, not by as much as he lost the first one, but its pretty decisive. |

Sequester Obama: “First of all, the sequester is not something I proposed, it’s something that Congress proposed. It will not happen.” In fact, the idea may have come in part from Obama’s current chief of staff, Jack Lew. The Washington Post’s Bob Woodward reported in his book “The Price of Politics” that Lew, then-Office of Management and Budget director, and White House Legislative Affairs Director Rob Nabors broached the idea of a defense sequester as a threat to Republicans during negotiations over raising the debt ceiling. The resulting Budget Control Act, which allowed the U.S. to borrow more money but set caps on federal spending over the next 10 years, was passed with bipartisan support in the House and Senate, and signed into law by the president. It led to the creation of the deficit-reduction “supercommittee,” which failed to agree on $1.2 trillion in debt reduction and as such triggered the automatic onset of those cuts on Jan. 2 – unless Congress averts them. Rep. Paul Ryan, Romney’s running mate, voted for the Budget Control Act. Obama’s avowal on sequester that “it will not happen” is the strongest statement that he or any Democrat has made in the more than year-long standoff over the potential cuts, but it wasn’t immediately clear whether Obama was taking his veto threat off the table or expressing confidence that lawmakers could reach an agreement when they return next month. Size of the Navy Romney: “Our Navy is smaller now than at any time since 1917. The Navy said they needed 313 ships to carry out their mission. We’re now at under 285. We’re headed down to the low 200s if we go through a sequestration. That’s unacceptable to me.” Romney’s “1917” attack line comes from the Navy itself, which coined it under the leadership of onetime Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead in order to drum up support in Congress for its shipbuilding program. But Navy leaders reduced their goal to 300 ships in Obama’s fiscal 2013 budget submission, and congressional analysts have expressed skepticism that the U.S. can even afford that program without spending billions more in the coming years. Today’s fleet is about 285 ships. Obama responded to Romney’s attack with a defense popularized by Undersecretary of the Navy Robert Work, who has argued that in the era of network and missile warfare, the numbers of ships in a battle fleet matter less than each ship’s capabilities. That prompted one of the most-discussed lines of the night: “You mentioned the Navy, for example, and that we have fewer ships than we did in 1916. Well, Governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets, because the nature of our military’s changed. We have these things called aircraft carriers, where planes land on them. We have these ships that go underwater, nuclear submarines. And so the question is not a game of “Battleship,” where we’re counting slips. It’s what are our capabilities.” Still, Navy commanders and congressional seapower advocates – from Roughead until now, often quote their own line, attributed to Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin: “Quantity has a quality all its own.” In other words, to handle missions on a planet with three-fifths of its surface covered by oceans, numbers of ships do matter a great deal. I watched the entire debate! All I can say is that if Mitt the Flip does win, I will expect no complaining from the right as Romneys pals become ever more wealthy while the middle class and the hated poor sink further into the financial sinkhole ceated by the GOP under Bush and clung to with religious fervor by the nutcase right! |

The truth? Such as Obama being a Muslim? The truth that Romney said that almost half of your countrymen are takers, not worth his attention? |
