My girl friend graduated from Flushing since it was the only local school that taught Russian. Used to take the Northern Blvd. bus to Spirotone, a photo store in Flushing. We kept our boat at the Arrow Yacht Club at College Park and at the World's Fair Marina at the southern end of Flushing Bay.

I started at Brooklyn Tech, but we moved to Pittsburgh when I would have been in 10th grade. Move back to the city but I had missed too many essential courses at Tech and ended up in a private school, Rhodes, on 54th St. Just west of 5th. Ave. it was a wild school! Spent most of our time down in the East Village at Slug's, Googie's, the Rienzi and, of course, the Filmore East.

It was a great place to grow up.

I'm now thinking your "friends" probably thought you were a weirdo when you called them goombah. LOL
You will never understand unless you grew up in the city.

Moolah somehow has convinced himself that stupidity is a virtue.

Based on his partner here, I think he's shown that stupidity is a communicable disease.

So cool, I keep forgetting that we discussed some of this in the past

Maron’! What a stunad!

On Staten Island where I grew up, the Irish and the Italians (Sicilians mostly) seemed to be the two biggest ethnic groups. It was more Irish on my end of the island but one of my brothers attended high school on the other end. I learned quite a few interesting phrases from my brother but I knew better than to use those phrases around people that I didn't know.

It's even worse. Moolah seems to think his stupidity is not only a virtue, but the rest of the world is supposed to be equally moronic. The concept that people use words outside the the definition given in the Urban Dictionary completely eludes the Mind of Moolah (represented right here ->.<- in full size) and that kids - teenagers - might not know or care that the usual connotation that goombah deals with Italian-Americans and use the term referring to any friend. I used to run into my Jewish buddy, Mike Hirschman, and call out "Hey. goombah!" He, would respond with something like "How's it going, paisan?"

Not a drop of Italian blood between the two of us, but it was the vernacular of the neighborhood.

"Duh" was probably a major part of Moolah's vocabulary.

That was one of the fun parts of being in the Army - learning how to cuss in other languages. The problem was it was all verbal and have no idea how to write some of the phrases I learned in Korean or Vietnamese! I think "gai sekia" (or something like it) was calling someone an SOB in Korean. Those who might have spent time there are probably far more expert.

Went to high school with a guy named Frankie Siciliano. I think he was Irish.
