Exactly, Bertie is a goombah. A close friend or associate. A member of our funfilled community right here.

Hey! Goombah! Paisan.

Are you saying Bertie isn't macho?

Guys that didn't grow up in the city will just never understand. Everyone in the neighborhood spoke a little Italian, some Hungarian, a fair amount of Yiddish, and, if you lived in that section, Russian or Ukraine, but there were only a couple families in our area. We all called each other "goombah" or paisan... Even the non-Italians did. And there was always "vaffanculo".

The dividing line between white Jackson Heights and black Corona was Junction Blvd. (There was a stop on the number 7 train - the Flushing El. Always an interesting place if you walked down the wrong staircase. Blacks were known as "moulinyan" - Italian for eggplant. You could always find a fight on Junction Blvd. There and we had some great ones in Rockaway Beach.

So, being called a goombah was a good thing. You were accepted into and part of the neighborhood gang.

I understand what you said when you first labeled Berton "goombah", now you are flat out lying again. LOL
If you want to now say he is your friend then fine but don't lie.

Read it again and tell me what I said and show where I was wrong. You will be a lot of things, but never a goombah.

I went to Flushing High School. You got it right. BTW Flushing has a FB page, did you grow up in Flushing. As a photographer, you would appreciate the pics of FHS, the oldest hs in NYC. All the architecture, gargoyles, etc

Nutless is confusing "Goombah" with "Goonbah" which he certainly is. Goofball fits also.
