The bankruptcy of electric vehicle battery maker A123 Systems earlier this week turned a spotlight on the struggles of the Obama administration's push for green jobs of the future around electric cars, which has fallen short in employment and production. Now a new report says in one Michigan plant, built with $151 million in federal money to assemble battery packs for the Chevrolet Volt, workers have been paid for months to do nothing. According to WOOD-TV of Grand Rapids, Mich., the 300 workers at the LG Chem plant in nearby Holland have yet to ship a single battery pack since the plant opened late last year. While employees have built battery cells for testing, those were shipped back to LG Chem's home labs in South Korea months ago, leaving workers to do odd jobs around the factory, volunteer for community projects or just sit and play Monopoly. Several say training also stopped months ago, leading some employees to quit in frustration. http://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motoramic/workers-chevy-volt-battery-plant-built-federal-money-182043143.html |

OK, plant built with Federal money, who is paying the workers to do nothing? I've read the article three times and still don't see the Feds paying the workers, so one would guess LG Chem is. If LG Chem is paying the workers to do nothing what is your complaint? Is the plant decaying and wasting away, are the workers laid-off and getting unemployment payments?

Just another one of Obie's green energy investments gone bad Corky, no need for any more details than that. Millions of taxpayer money wasted. |

The plant is NOT a Volt plant, it's not owned in any way by GM. It's just a place that COULD make batteries for the Volt in the future. In fact, at the moment the batteries are being made elewhere at that plant. The decision has nothing to do with Volt. They're keeping the plant ready to go, and as business picks up worldwide, they'll undoubtedly start the American plant. Just another Right Wing hit piece trying to make Obama/GM look bad. Neut would be happier if the employees were laid off and collecting government cheques. Edited by Brewster, Oct 20 2012, 07:59 AM.

Your link says it well: "“a factory that produces nothing and furloughs workers is a symbol of where America is going under (Obama's) failed policies.” |

You might want to credit the quote, but then you'd lose the value you have tried to give it! I do love the faith and hope you have in American and American workers!!!!

I said it was from your link, try reading before you insult. If you think this is a good investment then I understand why you threw your money away in your solar fiasco. |

Crediting the person quoted is normal, you don't identify that person, even though the article clearly does and put the quote in context. If pointing out your short comings is an insult, then so be it. The returned value of the investment in solar is quite good and the value of the investment in the battery plant is yet to be decided, but I have no fear that it won't pay-off in the next few years. |
