You're quite correct, Tom.

The US Right keeps pointing to Greece as a horrible example of what can go wrong, and that is true.

But they refuse to accept what is truly wrong in Greece - the people there think avoiding taxes is their civic duty, particularly the rich.

The same will happen in every country where the rich refuse to pay their share of the tax load.

The EU can't even give Greece enough money to make all the entitlements work. That is where the problem is.

Exactly, what's that saying about socialism; "it works great until one runs out of other's money"

As if the major problem in Greece and Spain is taxes. The left in this country, and the progressive liberals of Canada, don't learn a thing from Greece and Spain that is constantly in the news in the EU and here. It's the EU commission that is demanding austerity form Greece, if they want the taxpayers of the more frugal EU nations to bail them out. What Greece wants is for somebody else to pay for their "well being," meaning other tax payers of the more frugal EU nations, since they can't seem to do it themselves. But, isn't that what the Left in this country (and the progressive, liberal cheerleading section of Canada), is doing by supporting the largess promising Democrat politicians, more and more "entitlements" with other peoples money.

All liberals agree with the Obama tax doctrine, "I will not allow that half of Americans who pay no taxes to bear the burden of the other half who aren't paying their fair share.

Ban, please stop reading into articles what you want to read.

The Greeks don't want to pay their bills. But if they don't pay, they don't get to play.

Nobody from Canada is encouraging more entitlements. Nor do we we encourage American fairy dust that you can avoid paying taxes.

Entitlements are only a small part of the issue.

Quote:

Lagarde, predicting that the debt crisis has yet to run its course, adds: "Do you know what? As far as Athens is concerned, I also think about all those people who are trying to escape tax all the time. All these people in Greece who are trying to escape tax." She says she thinks "equally" about Greeks deprived of public services and Greek citizens not paying their tax.

"I think they should also help themselves collectively." Asked how, she replies: "By all paying their tax."

Asked if she is essentially saying to the Greeks and others in Europe that they have had a nice time and it is now payback time, she responds: "That's right."

The intervention by Lagarde comes after the caretaker Greek government met to discuss a sharp fall in tax revenues – down by a third in a year.

Ban, I know you really want to use Greece as an object lesson about government spending, but wishing won't make it so.

Noclue knows less about Greece than he does America. Entitlements are the problem.
