In another thread Brewster made this post:

Let's Take a Good Look at Romney's Five Point Plan:

Quote:

Part one of Mitt’s plan is to achieve energy independence on this continent by 2020. America is blessed with extraordinary natural resources, and developing them will create millions of good jobs – not only in the energy industry, but also in industries like manufacturing that will benefit from more energy at lower prices. America’s economy will boom when the billions of dollars we send overseas for our oil are kept here at home instead.
He's kidding, right?

Talk about a plan that will never work - Romney is pushing for more coal, more oil, more gas, all the old tricks, while ignoring new tech - but there is no way that those alone will do the job - let's look at Oil for example - since Obama took office, Oil exploration has doubled, production is higher than at any time in Bush's second term. And what has happened? Gasoline prices have risen by more than a dollar a gallon, and the Koch's fortunes have each risen by over $10 Billion.

Without renewables and efficiency regulations, the situation will continue to get worse, while the old energy companies get richer than ever.

Quote:

Part two of the plan is trade that works for America. Mitt believes that trade can offer enormous opportunities for American businesses and workers, but only if they are given a level playing field on which they can compete and win. That is why he will work to open new markets for American goods and services, while also confronting nations like China that cheat on trade and steal American jobs.
Totally silly - what new markets is he talking about?

Asia wants to export HERE, not import, He'll be lucky to break even. And has anybody noticed Europe's situation recently? How much expansion do you see there?

Harper is looking for new trading partners elsewhere, as he thinks Canada is already too closely linked to the US's sinking ship.

What other large markets does his fantasy world contain?

Maybe he intends to set up trade relations with Iran.

Quote:

Part three is to provide Americans with the skills to succeed through better public schools, better access to higher education, and better retraining programs that help to match unemployed workers with real-world job opportunities.
Give me a break! With what money?

The Republicans are SHUTTING DOWN schools, LAYING OFF teachers, not expanding!

Quote:

Part four is to cut the deficit, reducing the size of government and getting the national debt under control so that America remains a place where businesses want to open up shop and hire.
Nice words.

Not a single idea how to do it, other than to throw Granny off the cliff. He wants to INCREASE military spending by 2 Trillion$, and every time he talks about Obamacare these days, it's to mention one more aspect he's NOT going to kill.

The latest estimates by independent sources say that his plans will INCREASE the deficit, over and above Obama's total, by another 5 TRILLION$.

Go look back in History - find the last Republican President who ever decreased the deficit.

Quote:

Finally, part five of Mitt’s plan is to champion small business. Small businesses are the engine of job creation in this country, but they will struggle to succeed if taxes and regulations are too burdensome or if a government in Washington does its best to stifle them. Mitt will pursue comprehensive tax reform that lowers tax rates for all Americans, and he will cut back on the red tape that drives up costs and discourages hiring.

The Magic Man in action!

He's going to increase spending by 5 Trillion$ while decreasing taxes by some unspecified amount, and somehow out of that he's going to lower the deficit!

Harper and Merkel will be watching this magic act for hints...

I ask him several times for a link but he has refused to provide one.

So lets take the first item on his list.

In particular I want you to note that Brewster claims that Romney is "ignoring new tech". He then makes up all kinds of spurious claims made up from that statement.

However if one looks seriously at Romney's position on energy you find that Brewster either intentionally left off a very important part or his source did it.

Quote:

Mitt Romney will make America an energy superpower, rapidly and responsibly increasing our own production and partnering with our allies Canada and Mexico to achieve energy independence on this continent by 2020. This will require genuine support for increased energy production, a more rational approach to regulation, and a government that facilitates private-sector-led development of new energy technologies by focusing on funding research and removing barriers, rather than chasing fads and picking winners and losers.
............

Facilitate private-sector-led development of new energy technologies
◦Mitt will promote innovation by focusing the federal government on the job it does best – research and development – and will eliminate any barriers that might prevent new energy technologies from succeeding on their own merits. Strengthening and streamlining regulations and permitting processes will benefit the development of both traditional and alternative energy sources, and encourage the use of a diverse range of fuels including natural gas in transportation.

I will leave it up to the reader to decide if Brewster deliberately tried to mislead or if he simply did not do his research well enough to provide you with the truth of the matter.

Since Brewster does not want to own up to his mistake about energy lets see if he will about trade.

Again Brewster either intentionally left off a very important part or his source did it and because of that Brewster made some very silly comments.

Quote:

Mitt Romney believes that free trade is essential to restoring robust economic growth and creating jobs. We need to open new markets beyond our borders for American goods and services on terms that work for America.

Opening New Markets

Every president beginning with Ronald Reagan has recognized the power of open markets and pursued them on behalf of the United States. George W. Bush successfully negotiated eleven FTAs, encompassing sixteen countries. He also had the vision to commence negotiations with a number of allies around the Pacific Rim to expand significantly the Trans-Pacific Partnership. All told, these agreements have enabled people across the world to come together and build a better future. Economists estimate that the agreements have led to the creation of 5.4 million new American jobs and support a total of nearly 18 million jobs. Looking beyond just our FTA partners, our total exports support nearly 10 million American jobs. These are not just jobs; they’re good jobs, paying significantly above average, and more than one-third are in manufacturing.

•Reinstate the president’s Trade Promotion Authority
•Complete negotiations for the Trans-Pacific Partnership
•Pursue new trade agreements with nations committed to free enterprise and open markets
•Create the Reagan Economic Zone

Confronting China

China presents a broad set of problems that cry out urgently for solutions. It is time to end the Obama administration’s acquiescence to the one-way arrangements the Chinese have come to enjoy. We need a fresh and fearless approach to that trade relationship. Our first priority must be to put on the table all unilateral actions within our power to ensure that the Chinese adhere to existing agreements. Anyone with business experience knows that you can succeed in a negotiation only if you are willing to walk away. If we want the Chinese to play by the rules, we must be willing to say “no more” to a relationship that too often benefits them and harms us.

•Increase CBP resources to prevent the illegal entry of goods into our market
•Increase USTR resources to pursue and support litigation against unfair trade practices
•Use unilateral and multilateral punitive measures to deter unfair Chinese practices
•Designate China a currency manipulator and impose countervailing duties
•Discontinue U.S. government procurement from China until China commits to GPA

I will leave it up to the reader to decide if Brewster deliberately tried to mislead or if he simply did not do his research well enough to provide you with the truth of the matter.

This reader thinks Berton is full of stinky. Romney's energy plan is straight out of the Kochs playbook. I'm surprised he isn't promising $2 a gallon gas if elected.
