I can't say that money wasn't an issue to get where I thought I wanted to be; but, once I got there I did enjoy it. I actually enjoyed what I did with my vocational life (not without bumps in the road at times as our President might put it) and was lucky enough to make a decent living. I can truthfully say that I enjoyed it more than I'm enjoying my retirement now, which I suppose is why I became so heavily into gardening. Gardening gives me back some purpose in my life which I felt I lost after I retired. It's my therapy. I am one of those who has a difficult time just "relaxing." Except for the fellowship I've had with friends, golfing bored me (I enjoy kabitzing with MR..... he is a good man. I like his intensity although we don't agree on much; but that's okay). As time has gone by since I retired, I have come to enjoy the solitude and my garden and my animal friends (dogs) more than seeking human contact. I don't know if that is good or bad; but, for now, it keeps me going. |

I can relate to how you feel Ban. I loved working, particularly the human interaction. But, I just am not up to that level of performance anymore. I could get a job, but don't need to financially. But, would feel guilty that I wasn't pulling my weight or that I was displacing a younger person. My dw loves the gardening. I did when I was younger, but since arthur itis came to stay it's not as much fun. Being a freeloader can be depressing at times. I guess I'll just have to send some more of that welfare money (SS & Pension) to the Obama campaign where it will do some good.

I never thought I'd end up working for the phone company, but ended up loving the job. Technically challenging with a constant influx of new hardware and updated software. Besides, who else was going to turn me loose on a computer that took up 10,000 sq. ft. of floor space with a Biomation in one hand and a dual trace storage scope in the other? Looked forward to retiring, but it started to get old because the wife is still working. Then I was sponsored to become a member of a men's club here in town. The club has about 150 members - age 55 and older - and activities going on every day. Poker, cribbage, golf, tennis, bowling, book clubs, investment clubs, weekly breakfasts, discussion groups, trips to interesting areas around the Atlanta area (Warner-Robins AFB, Ft. Benning Infantry Museum, the new Kia factory in West Point) and, a BBQ lunch group, a monthly dinner and, for the wives, a fall picnic and a big dinner-dance at the Country Club of the South each spring. We have a great time! And it's not only fun. The group runs the USO at Atlanta airport one day a month, we work on Habitat for Humanity houses, man a couple of the local food banks, we've brought foster kids in to spend a morning bowling and a pizza lunch... And these are some interesting guys. My bowling nemesis just retired as the head of the Robinson College of Business, Accountancy Department and held the Robinson Chair at GSU. Other guys were CFOs for major law practices in town, one guy was one of the group that started Metro PCS. We have doctors, lawyers and engineers. I do the photography for the group and teach an occasional class on the subject. There are not enough hours in the day to do everything I want to do! My plan is to start a similar group after we move to Ohio. The best part? There is one club business meeting a year and the members do all the organizing and planning of activities. Lots of retired execs who like running things like this and the rest of us are happy to let 'em. |

Ah, you poor child. I will have you on ignore when I feel like it and take you off should I feel like it and might view a single post every now and then. In a few cases, might even reply. I never said I'd put you on ignore and never, ever, not anytime in the next 5 billion years would I take you off. Had I said something like that, then yes, reading an occasional post from you would have been a lie. But I never said that, did I? The world does not have any obligations to live to how you think it should work, you silly weirdo. Now you'll be able to live in eager anticipation of my next message to you. Should I decide to send one. And you really should have put a comma between me and weirdo in your first sentence. Without it, the weirdo applies to you. It's like writing "Why are you posting about me Tommy. See. The "me" and "Tommy" go together. Your ever helpful buddy, ngc1514. |

Your doubletalk is very poor weird and I was on my cell phone so I got the comma wrong. LOL Is that a weirdo thing, commas? Now lie some more about having me on ignore part time. That is funnier than the ones who say I'm on ignore when I'm not. Did you shoot your BB gun today? |

The good news is someone on here is praying for Nute. Unfortunately it does not, as yet, seem to have accomplished anything. |
