You can label it stop gap Brew, but no country or company builds a power plant, to just turn around and shutter it a few years from now. There are decade long investments with coal sources lined up far in advance. The CO2 will be sputtering out for decades. |

Pat, what the Chinese plan to do (and have said so several times) is to go all out on all forms of energy production until green tech production catches up. From what I've heard, they expect increases in green energy production will more than cover their increases in demand by 2020 at the latest. At that point, their oldest, dirtiest coal plants will start to be shut down as green capacity allows, with the last coal plants taken out of service in the mid 2030's, making them roughly 20 years old when retired. This is a lot slower than I would like, but at least they have a plan. Neither Canada nor the US have even that much. On Edit: India has hinted that they are on a similar schedule, but they don't have China's resources, and will undoubtedly take longer. Canada's plan? Still waiting. I wonder how the nations would be ranked if CO2 emission was ranked by tonnage contribution per capita? |

Australia, the US and Canada would be right at the top. I haven't checked which would be worse for a while now, but I suspect it would be: 1: Australia 2: Canada 3: U.S.A. Edited by Brewster, Oct 18 2012, 02:53 AM.

Pat, I think Obama was directing these words directly at you yesterday:

Except what Obama says is a lie. That you believe him shows your bias. Edited by Berton, Oct 18 2012, 03:48 AM.

After hearing President Obama last night say that his administration has done much to advance oil, coal and gas exploration and production, you would think environmentalists would a little upset with his "energy program." |

I don't know about full blown environmentalists, but as a "warmist", I'm not very pleased with it, Ban. In fact, it's one of his original promises that he hasn't come close to fulfilling. But next to Romney he looks like a wild-eyed, hair shirted tree hugger. Edited by Brewster, Oct 18 2012, 05:13 AM.
