Obama say he's taking 700 billion or so out of medicare in the form of savings on waste, fraud and abuse. Romney says he's not taking anything out of medicare Does that mean that Romney thinks it's ok to waste those 700 billion on waste, fraud and abuse? |

Let ME explain When you take 700 million or billion or whatever out of a program like Medicare, you don't take it from the fraud, waste, and abuse. It really comes out of the programs and costs that are a MUST to many people. You don't actually think that taking funding out will stop the thievery do you? So, if you take and put a thief into another area with less houses to rob, he's gonna stop. RIGHT |

Basically, medicare is a decent plan, one that insures those who are getting too old to do much for themselves, that their medical care is taken care of. I think the government spends about 5% administering the plan whereas private insurance spends about 20%. So dollar for dollar, more money is spent on benefits with medicare than with a private insurance plan. Now how to rid medicare of leakage is the issue and how to end the hyper inflation in healthcare in general. With millions more Americans pouring into the system yearly, there is no doubt that it will soon begin reducing benefits. |

I do wonder why, if Obama thinks there is 700 billion in waste, fraud and abuse, he hasn't done something about it in the last 4 years. |

" With millions more Americans pouring into the system yearly, there is no doubt that it will soon begin reducing benefits. " One way to avoid some of that would be to make the wealthy pay into medicare on every dollar they make, like they do on nearly everyone else. |

I see Pat got himself caught in the usual Right Wing lie... The Right keeps claiming that anyone can get good health care by walking into any hospital and they will be treated, insured or not. And now he wants to claim that "millions more will be pouring into the system", and the cost will break the system. If everyone has good health care now, where are the "millions" coming from? Which is the lie, Pat? You and other Right Wingers have made both claims - they can't both be true. Actually, since there will be millions more putting money INTO the system, the benefits should increase. And Pat will pay less. Why the US Right keeps ignoring that part I just don't know. Excellent observations Pat. I would add that putting everyone on a medicare type plan would slow the hyperinflation in health care, by asserting more control over the system. |

I have a friend who owns a business and cannot afford medical insurance. he has suffered with an anal cyst for almost a year. they will not operate since he has no money. They drain it monthly, meanwhile he can barely get to work and supervise. He is broke from reaganomics and the trickle down theory of the right. Pat tell him how he can get free healthcare? Just for the drainage he had to prove his address and info and they had to certify that so they can bill him before they drained it the first time |
