Since I was a kid I have always been responsible. When I started my const biz after a job I did not go to the bar, I bought another tool. I think parents can set a bad example when they have no clue how to run a household.
To this day, when I take on a project, small or big, I never take a salary until the job is completed. So many I know take the deposit check and blow it

Agreed jcapps. And if you are fortunate enough to have parental guidance in one form or antoher to guide you toward working for what you want so you develop an appreciation for what it takes to get there, then not as likely to squander what you have earned. An increasing number of America's youth don't have the parental guidance and squander what ever God given (inherited) gifts they have, even to a point where it might affect others in the wake.

I think the genes play a lot bigger role than many are willing to admit. Irresponsible flakes beget irresponsible flakes regardless of environment. Studies of indentical twins separated at birth with different home environments have borne this out. Many adoptive parents have been dismayed to find that in spite of all their love and dedicated parenting they have adopted the bad seed from hell, who dispite having no contact from birth, acts out and bears a strikingly similar behavior pattern to their biological parents. That's why IMO it's better to encourage troubled individuals to abort early rather than adopting out their offspring which is likely to become a debt on society.
