I'm beginning to think that Tom can't read.

Did you see a million dollars for a license to operate a cab in all big cities except DC and there's lobbying going on there to get it done. Our government making it impossible for someone to get into a simple business without a pay off to the government. And the admitted goal was to limit competition.

Corporatism. Crony capitalism.

How is it then that the majority of Americans work for small business? Personally I do not wish to let business self regulate. Enough tainted food and unsafe products exist with regulation. Imagine what we would get without it...

Allow for safety regs--no one is arguing no regulation. But how many more businesses would there be, and jobs, were regulations, unnecessary ones, removed?

What regulations would you remove? No doubt there are some that should be but it seems I never hear or read about specifics, just the "we are over regulated" sound bite.

Here's all that was required, I've struck out the unnecessary ones:

-- Register as sole proprietor with the County Clerk's Office (must be done in person)

-- Apply to the IRS for an Employer Identification Number.

-- Complete 15-hr Food Protection Course!

-- After the course, register for an exam that takes 1 hour. You must score 70 percent to pass. (Sample question: "What toxins are associated with the puffer fish?") If you pass, allow three to five weeks for delivery of Food Protection Certificate.

-- Register for sales tax Certificate of Authority

-- Apply for a Temporary Food Service Establishment Permit. Must bring copies of the previous documents and completed forms to the Consumer Affairs Licensing Center.

-- Buy a portable fire extinguisher from a company certified by the New York Fire Department and set up a contract for waste disposal.

-- We couldn't finish the process. Had we been able to schedule our health inspection and open my stand legally, it would have taken us 65 days.

So we leave safety, though even that's overboard for a lemon-aid stand.

I don't believe that they are unnecessary rules. Now what?

If enough people agree, we tell government to back off, to stop interfering with the creation of businesses and thereby jobs.

As I posted in the OP we don't have it as bad as many countries where legal property and business ownership is stymied.

Most of the regulation has more to do with doing favors for business in return for election support rather than safety and health. Regulation should be limited to issues of harm and enforced by civil or criminal laws.

charging a million dollars for a permit to operate a cab is a prime example fo crony capitalism.

Exactly. They go beyond protecting rights. The favors to business include high entry costs and licensing to keep out competitors
