I agree that cutting prices in half is a bit optimistic. But if we consume 20% of the oil let's produce 20% of the oil. Alternative energy is not meeting our needs, at least yet with nothing promising near term. let's become as independent as we can.
Bruce, most of that increase is because of permits approved by the Bush administration and exploration on private lands. Production has increased in spite of Obama's efforts to quell production. Remember that Obama said that under his administration the cost of energy would skyrocket. Fortunately he hasn't been able to his policies through congress. Unfortunately there would be nothing to stop him if he were elected for a second term.
"domestic oil production has done nothing but consistently and sharply risen under the Obama administration. That we're producing more oil within our borders every day than all but the first year of Bush, the Younger's tenure. source
I wish you'd not quote me without reading what I have said.

"Ongoing permitting: facts and figures (Please note that these numbers are updated daily) Shallow water: To date, 112 new shallow water well permits have been issued since the implementation of new safety and environmental standards on June 8, 2010. Just 6 of these permits are currently pending; with 12 having been returned to the operator for more information. Deepwater drilling applications fall into two categories for the implementation of our new regulations. To clarify these differences, we have included the narrative below. The deepwater moratorium was lifted on October 12, 2010, and is the reference for inclusion of new rules in applications: Deepwater permits requiring subsea containment: Since an applicant first successfully demonstrated containment capabilities in mid-February 2011, we have approved 307 of these permits for 94 unique wells, with 30 permits pending, and 17 permits returned to the operator with requests for additional information, particularly information regarding containment. Deepwater activities not requiring subsea containment: Since the implementation of new safety and environmental standards, 60 of these permits have been approved, with 2 permits pending, and 1 permits returned to the operator with requests for additional information. These activities include water injection wells and procedures using surface blowout preventers. sourceIt looks like the Obama administration has approved a fairly large number of new permits. But, then, you don't give him credit for anything. I notice you haven't addressed my points.

I have already addressed your point about new oil leases. You didn't address when the leases were awarded or the fact that Obama has said that his intent is to make energy prices (fossil fuels) very high. Se my comments and my source.
Okay, I played once more. But this will be the last time.

Okay, I played once more. But this will be the last time. Is there a difference in when a lease is approved and when a drilling permit is issued?

"the fact that Obama has said that his intent is to make energy prices (fossil fuels) very high"
Maybe I missed it but I thought he said, not that he intended to make energy prices high, but that the result of cap and trade would be that prices would rise because those costs would be passed on to consumers. His intent, I think, is to force companies to stop polluting the environment. That's a difference, imo, from intending only to raise energy prices.
