But Meursault is an honest man! Just divorced from reality.
Good point.

"To wit, that a) gasoline prices are beyond his control, but b) to the extent oil and gas production is rising in America, his energy policies deserve all the credit, and c) higher prices are one more reason to raise taxes on oil and gas drillers while handing even more subsidies to his friends in green energy. Where to begin?"

At the beginning.

First, assume telco is right, we have:

"To wit, that a) gasoline prices are beyond his control, but ... c) higher prices are one more reason to raise taxes on oil and gas drillers while handing even more subsidies to his friends in green energy. Where to begin?"

c) is a non sequitar. So we have:

"To wit, that a) gasoline prices are beyond his control.... Where to begin?"

So why do anything?
Barry reminds me of Meursault in The Stranger, totally removed from emotions, lacks any character or moral fiber, unmoved and devoid of reason and self judgment, and then wonders how he got where he is at as the march him towards the hangman. lol "wait, how could I be at fault?" :hystery:
"lacks any character or moral fiber, "

For a minute there, I thought you were describing yourself.

He obviously doesn't need an invitation. Despite millers constant drivel the Canadians continue to participate. Thankfully.

Pat,

The oild companies, not the government, decide their production quotas. Jim apparently wants the federal government to nationalize the oil companies and keep the prices down. I read that gas is really cheap in Venezula.

And of course Pat would like everyone to forget that oil production is higher now than it was under the last years of "OIL MAN" Bush. In fact, it's almost as high as it was under that other Rightwinger, Bill Clinton.

If Obama is trying to cut production, he's a bigger failure than even the US Right thinks.

We produce 5% of the worlds oil and consume 20%. Even if we develop every bit we can, it would hardly be able to put much downward pressure on prices by increasing worldwide supply. We have to compete with everyone else globally for the oil even if it is pumped out of the ground here. The politicians claiming drill baby drill will reduce the price of gas by $2 a gallon are being dishonest.

I agree that cutting prices in half is a bit optimistic. But if we consume 20% of the oil let's produce 20% of the oil. Alternative energy is not meeting our needs, at least yet with nothing promising near term. let's become as independent as we can.

Bruce, most of that increase is because of permits approved by the Bush administration and exploration on private lands. Production has increased in spite of Obama's efforts to quell production. Remember that Obama said that under his administration the cost of energy would skyrocket. Fortunately he hasn't been able to his policies through congress. Unfortunately there would be nothing to stop him if he were elected for a second term.

"domestic oil production has done nothing but consistently and sharply risen under the Obama administration. That we're producing more oil within our borders every day than all but the first year of Bush, the Younger's tenure.
