I'm looking at converting some Ford 350 Vans to propane. I have talked to one company that converts taxi cabs to natural gas or propane. The company says the tanks come from Canada and take about a month to order. I considered CNG, but he is talking me into propane. The conversion fee is roughly $6K for propane or $8K for CNG. I was wondering if these prices sound in the ball park and what your thoughts are on this. I read somewhere here that you have converted over some vehicles. Pros cons? |

My brother converted a Chev suburban to propane. It saved him about 50% on fuel costs. In BC that makes sense since there are self fill propane pumps at a lot of stations. In the US its another story. |

Aren't LP costs tied to oil? |

You are approaching this Telco from a subjective viewpoint, given you live in a condo and I assume would have a problem having a propane storage tank installed there. A business with the objective of cutting operating expenses looks at these things different than you do. And they are not limited in the same sense you might be. |

Pat, CNG price is about right if it includes the micro compressor. Propane is an oil based product so price is likely to follow oil, not good in my estimation. CNG is great if you RTB regularly and have Natural Gas easily available at your base. Check for CNG filling stations in your area and areas you will be traveling to, not common enough yet for my liking.
