I agree, Paul would defend our interests. From what I have read from him, he doesn't consider the middle east worthy of committing troops to. Europe and Asia have more on the line in the middle east than we do. Let them deal with Iran and regional issues. In fact Chris, let our European allies defend what interests we might have in that region while they are defending theirs.

That would have been a good idea with Libya. I still haven't heard what our interests were there.

I love these hand wringing threads. The big bad wolf might get some claws and hurt me. Boo Hoo. Oh crap, this might result in the rag heads cutting off my supply of gas. Boo Hoo. Somebody might get hurt. Boo Hoo. I wonder what will become of me if I can't fit under my old school desk. Boo Hoo. Screw the middle east and the sand diggers. Saudia Arabia has $billions of my dollars, let them deal with it. Better yet, I don't give a crap who over there deals with it, it's none of my business or concern.

Ron Paul received right at $5,000,000 in donations from guys like me last month. The only guy running who has not sold out and who has common sense. If more would support him, we wouldn't be having conversations like this in the future.

Question, how many people in the Congo worry about Iran? Do they have any leaders or news agencies screaming in terror about mushroom clouds floating overhead if they don't do something about this?
Well, I'm a noninterventionist like Paul but even he would defend the US if he saw Iran as a threat to us or our interests.

Our interests were intermingled with the interests of the European countries whose oil supply was at risk. If we are going to ask them to join us in situations like that, we have to be willing to reciprocate.

I thought oil was the motivation invented for Iraq by liberals. Now it was for attacking Libya? I've only heard Obama speak of humanitarian reasons for bombing Libyans.

Oil was the motivation for Iraq. It's also the motivation for Libya. But, I suppose there was probably some motivation to protect the folks we wanted in power.

I remember watching the "Kudlow and Cramer" show just after the invasion. Kudlow announced that the results of the invasion would be 12 - 12- 12. Within 12 months we would be pumping 12 million barrels of Iraqi oil a day and oil would be selling for $12 a barrel.

Unfortuately the Iraqui's didn't know this and kept blowing the hell out of their oil pipe lines etc after we "freed" them.

That's how I recall it and recall the neocon letters about it, not intent of taking the oil at all, but ensuring it flows into the free market. Neocons, people who think you can force the global free market.

Personally I don't think that we would have cared about how evil Saddam was if Iraq had sat upon the world's 4th largest carrot patch rather than oil reserve...
