There is no error of ways. You see no parallel, I do. If you see no parallel and I believe that you don't, you should see no reason to attempt an answer to the question I posted in the title, "What is your pain tolerance?" Apparently you don't feel we will approach a situation similar to that of Greece, that we here in the US will not have to experience austere measures that will cause pain, that may come after we're gone. What can I say in addition. I'm not trying to convince you that you are wrong in your assumption that there is no parallel between the past financial policies of Greece (Europe) and ours today. I just posed a hypothetical question.
I haven't said that my thinking is correct, only that I don't see the US as in the same situation Greece is in. Greece has been unable, until recently, to get any lender to lend them more money, even at nearly 30% interest rates. We, otoh, are able to attract all the money we need at less than 1/2 %. Now, I don't mean to minimize the problems we face, but comparing us to Greece is flawed, imo. I don't disagree that we need to make major changes or someday we might end up like Greece, but I think we are a long way from that. We could also discuss why we are in the condition we are in if you'd like.

I watched the first half of a documentary on Clinton on PBS's American Experience last night. At one point while he still had dems controlling congress he submitted and they passed a budget that cut spending and raised taxes. The economy grew and came out of recession. The big question is though, was it because of that action or just the normal cyclic nature of the economy.

Well, Tom, you gave the righties a perfect opportunity to deny Clinton credit for anything.

The article in the NY Times that Chris quoted in another post made a lot of sense. We will definitely need to raise the age of SS and Medicare (something that neither party is willing to do). We will also have to add 1 dollar in new tax revenue for every 3 dollars we cut in spending (also something that neither party is willing to even talk about.)

Looks like Stoney has folded on this on.
It seems that's what the righties do when challenged. They complain that no one will discuss with them and when someone agrees to discuss it, they become mute.
Remember...i'm a rightie...and I WILL discuss anything. Ask Brewster, for one. And, i've discussed with you, too. Not all righties as you put it are stone set in their beliefs on everything. I'm only stone set in my beliefs in my religion as it applies to myself. That would be the only thing I wouldn't argue about, nor would I condemn anyone else for having.

Thanks, though, for not including me in your "righties" comment.....lol

Are you saying that we have a low pain tolerance even for that, that polticians fear for their political lives and won't cross that pain line knowing that our public won't stand for it?

Ban,

Based on past behavior I don't believe that there is a politican who believes that he would be elected if he told the American public the truth. I would like to believe that we are smart enough to listen to the truth but since re-election is the first and foremost goal of a politican no one, running for a major office, has been willing to broach the subject.
