Uh, Tim, that hasn't been Jcapps' mentality as much as it has been Jim's and Pat's. They are the one's that thought many should be forced to do stoop labor in
Alabama by saying to them: "no work, no eat." (I know that is a paraphrase.)
Thanks for clarifyimg that for me

Tim,

Are you on SSI or SSD? Since you worked unless you were in a non SS job you should be eligible for SSD and a higher than $700 a month income. The rule with SSD if you are awarded it you collect the amount that you would had received had you kept working until retirement (67 for you?) Your yearly SS statement for the last year that you worked will provide you with what your SSD monthly check should be.

SSD ususally takes over 2 years to obtain but if you have a medical condition that will result in you not living that long your request will be put on the fast track. A guy who I went to the academy with and was a close friend developed throat cancer. He was collecting SSD within 3 months after he applied.

Good luck.
I'm on SSD. It's based on the income you have for the last 5 years. Since I worked at Walmart and Home Depot and didn't work at all for a year, they only went back the first year of my old job I worked at for so long. And, just so happens, it was during that last year that we were on short time and made about what WM and HD paid a year. So, I only got the $700 a month, which from what I understand, is about what an average. In the WM and HD jobs, I didn't work over 6 months on either, and never paid very much into the system on them both combined. So, I guess I didn't qualify for anything much more. I asked that same question, why didn't I qualify for more per month, but the only answer was based on the fact of my work time during that 5 year period and amounts were somehow figured on it by them. My last SS statement said $2740 a month, which I just found and looked at. I don't know why I don't get that much though. They must be holding out on me due to my age or something, they just don't tell me anything.
$2740 a month!! I paid the max for 32 years and don't get that much. Whats your secret?

That's what the paper said, but I don't get anything NEAR that. I think it's a print error, as this paper came from back in 2006, and they aren't paying me what I should get with only $700 a month now. They're so screwed up like we've been saying. I DO know that I paid in enough to, I believe, make it more than $700, but no where near $2740. Somewhere in between would be nice, but no matter what i've asked or said, they say it's this or nothing. Can't argue with the government or they'll take everything away.

Tim,

Take a look at that last SS statement. There should be a line that reads "What you would receive per month if you became totally disabled today." That number should be close to the same as you would receive had you worked at your then current income factoring in raises for inflation until age 65.

SSD is an insurance policy that you paid for and have the right to collect. I cannot understand why you are on SSD but receive an SSI income. Did you have an attorney? This does not make sense.

One thing that I can say for a fact is that the person who truly has your best interest in mind is you. Log on the the SS website and read about SSD.Educate yourself and do not completyely rely on an "expert" (attorney).

It apprears that a mistake was made and you need to correct it. If you didn't have an SS attorney they work for no money up front. If you win an award the attorney receives $5% or a max of $7500 (I think that this is the new amount it used to be $5000).

Additionally if it is found that you are not receiving the correct monthly amount SSD will back pay you with interest for up to, I believe, a max of 4 years.

Maybe it's not called SSD. The check says Social Security/Disability on it. I didn't use a lawyer, either. I'll look into it further, though, since you said this. I didn't know all of this. Bad thing...it's probably too late anyway. Thanks though.

Tim,

Actually it isn't too late. The only limit that you have is the 4 years back pay plus interest. If you want I would be glad to look at your last SS statement, scan it and send it to my email address but black out your SS number, and give you my opinion.

Good luck...

I have an appt to talk to the SS office in the morning and maybe we can figure these things out. I'm gonna bring my last paper with the amount listed and see if there might have been a filing error and MAKE them look at it in case they just overlooked or ignored it or were too lazy....you know how people can be that way in their jobs they think they are a big shot at....lol

A philosophy of personal responsibility and a belief that we create our own reality. Of a passionate moment to moment existence. Works flawlessly for me.

I realize how I live and what I believe is at odds with a liberal dependence mentality and a belief that life just happens to people, therefore blame and responsibility belongs out there, and the government exists to feed, clothe, shelter and nurture the helpless non actualized resident, whether legally here or not. Carry on and enjoy the life of a slave.

Us sane people don't consider ourselves slaves. We are realists who recognize that life is not all about ourselves. If you choose to live your life that way, I feel very sorry for you. You must be one miserable so and so.

Tim,

If you cannot work this out on your own find a competent SS attorney. The best way to do this is to talk with former clents. Many of these attornies take as many cases as they can and figure that, like throwing mud against a wall, some of them will stick without any effort on their part.
