Yep, numerous times while she was still alive. I reported the former milkman too. I really can care less about some family members feelings over it either. It pisses me off. |

Pat, thank you for the concern, but I didn't point out her condition for that reason. What I wanted to get across is, if you were to see her parking her car in a handicapped stall, then walking into a grocery store, she would look perfectly fine. She's often has people accosting her about her right to park there. But the simple fact is, if she had to plan on walking all the way across a parking lot and back again, she just couldn't do it - she would have no energy left over to do the shopping she needed. And there are many others in her same predicament. It's very difficult to judge just who is an isn't handicapped but simply looking at them for a few moments Edited by Brewster, Feb 22 2012, 03:37 AM.

Pat, The deputy worked a plan with SS and they helped pay for his training to drive. It is a common mistake to confuse those on SSI with those on SSD. Also even though SSD pays more it is based on what you are earning when you are injured. SSD somewhat polices itself. Those earning the big money would be crazy to give this up for a max of $2000 a month. Those in the low paying jobs who are looking for an easier way end up trying to survive on $1000, or less, per month and are prohibited from working any thing that involves a W-2. |

ME? What'd I do? I'm innocent until proven guilty, and then, only after denying it for as long as I can....lol NOW, to the subject at hand. As many of you know here, i'm disabled. I have been for 3 years now. You see me on this computer from time to time, but, unlike SOME people think, I might be disabled, but that doesn't mean I should lay down and die. I can do some things. But, now, I have to have helpers or babysitters as I call them. And, I still go camping in my camper. BUT, I do so only with help and it's like at home, where I sit down for a while..2 hours or so, have to lay down for a while..about 2 hours or more, and get to walk some but not far....less than 100 yards at best. But, I don't get that power chair to ride in. If I can walk in Walmart to where I want, I do. If not, I get someone else to do it for me...thank my wife. OH, and I DO NOT have a handicapped tag or sticker. Don't need it if I can walk some, even if not far and don't believe I need one, either. So, what would be a job for me? I applied to the Disability board for a temporary job to do...something. What I got was junk mail trying to get me to lick envelopes and mail out OTHER junk mail. I got told that, if I was fully disabled, then there was no need to apply for any job. AND, i've seen people who you can tell are NOT disabled and turned them in (if they're on a roof of a house nailing shingles and they're on disability for their back, you know they're lying) only to be told that they don't have the resources to investigate every report and that many people report them for spite and don't know the whole story. So, they ignore it. Have you come up with a job for me yet when I get 2 hours at best in one position without having to change to another one? Now, as I see it, from the trouble I had to go thru to get my disability claim approved, which involved paperwork times 3, every doctor's analysis and treatment copied and submitted....in triplicate, got turned down the first time even with all of this proof, went thru my local Congressman who helped with my claim, and I didn't do anything using any lawyer like they advertise who will get you approved no matter what but may take several years and 30% of your backpay. If they are willing to go thru all of this, then maybe they have either a true disability, or they're willing to lie and cheat. But, that doesn't mean the board will even care, even if you report them as such. Paperwork and fees paid to the state and lawyers in political pockets...it all is part of the problem. Got that job yet? While I was waiting on my approval for disability, I had 3 separate surgeries that, also, added to the reasons for my filing and proved I was and still am disabled. During that time, I watched, PERSONALLY, 4 other people who applied at the same time as me get approved. Why? I'm not saying it was the color of their skin, but they were 2 black and 2 dark skinned of Spanish/Mexican decent. I'm not saying it was because of them having a lawyer and I didn't, which cost them that 30% fee out of their backpay and did ALL the work for them while I had my wife to do it for me....not sure which one costs more there...lol. I'm not saying it was because they had better proof than I did that they were truly disabled, since they worked roofing and laying carpet and tile while they waited to be approved while I lay in a bed from various surgeries going between doctors and hospitals and home. SO, what was the reason here? I have no idea. I asked the disability people, they said their names were higher on the list due to various circumstances such as last name and alphabetic reasoning, which was a lie since my last name starts with a D and the next person in line on that list started with a J...unless they go by another alphabet than I know of and learned. So, there was NO reason they could explain. Still wonder that. Now, i've had 4 more surgeries since then, the last one being this past September 20, 2011, where they had to fuse my lower spine as a solid bone with lag screws they put into the vertebra and rods connecting them to hold it in place, removing my ability to bend over to even reach below my knees anymore. YET, I had to go thru an update to see if I was still eligible in December. I had to get all of those records since I was approved last, including the last surgery, and that meant more paperwork, more copies, all in triplicate again. Then, after submitting all of that, I had to AGAIN bring all of those I FIRST submitted to be originally approved again to show, even though they already have them on file, as if I would need them again. And, since I was laid up or unable to travel anywhere that close to the surgery (which if you've never had, think of a woman having a baby and being in labor and those pains being in your back 24/7 for well over 2 months...a woman who had this same fusion surgery actually said that same thing to me that it was the same pain levels...lol.) they wanted to SEE me in person to interview me, that all those papers apparently didn't matter as much as seeing my pretty face. So, I had to travel 55 miles to the closest Federal Courthouse where the judge would oversee the interview and look thru the paperwork to see if I still qualified to continue. Here I am, in so much pain, i'm popping Lortabs like candy and muscle relaxers like chewing gum. The judge, then, looks at me, asks me if i'm in as much pain as I appeared to be, then told me to get my butt back home, and he would see that whoever it was that said I had to be there in person was fired for causing me that much pain and agony. Seems the bureaucratic paper slingers don't know their butt from a hole in the ground in the first place. Now, this is the same time that, well, I got the news. So, that, also, I said to the judge during this interview, providing papers on that. He said, no matter what, there was sufficient evidence without that to show I was definitely, no chance of a change later on or improvement, never to be asked or subjected again to an update. With the papers and evidence I had shown, not including the "final" paperwork, it was apparent there would be no job I could successfully hold down, not internet work, not paper stuffing, not anything, due to the fact that i'm a constant subject to at least 1 surgical procedure on my spine, and in no way could any employer allow me to work for them, nor should I have to try to grin and bear it. So, I am permanently disabled according to the courts and this judge. ( I only wish permanent wasn't so temporary but i'm still hoping) Why am I giving all of this information? Well, while I HAD to reup myself as qualified, those same 4 DIDN'T. Why? Who knows. Maybe it's that alphabet. (I still see one of them roofing and report that one as I mentioned earlier only nothing is or will be done or looked at) And, if they required EVERYONE to reup every 2 years as they MADE me do, then, maybe it would be harder to keep on disability, and harder to prove. And, if they looked into reports, such as I filed, then they might find that there are plenty of fakers out there. (I know SOMEONE tried to say I was a faker for camping one time and shouldn't be able to or even try if i'm TRULY disabled, but, well, Karma is all i'll say.) Oh, another BTW...I worked and paid into the system for 25 years. I went from 2006 making $3000 a month to, now, making $700 a month. What a drop. BUT, I can see why some people would still try to do this. Take that $700 a month and figure out the weekly pay, monthly pay, yearly pay, but most important....the HOURLY payrate and compare that to minimum wage and you'll see that most people do it for the fact...it pays more than actually working. For me, it might pay SOME, but you do the math as to how far I fell in income just in this instance. *the company I worked for 17 years closed down, and I went to $2000 a month from 2006 until March 2008 when I quit working and filed disability* |

Sad world when able people cannot even accept a desk job. We have many centers here for the disabled and mentally handicapped and you know what, even though a majority of these folks are in wheelchairs and have twisted bodies, they all WORK They do not go sitting at home, they do not go on vacations, they WORK. They answer phones, they do light assembly for companies, they all WORK |

Tim, if you only receive $700/mo, how do you live on that. Most peoples house payment is more than that. |

My wife works, too, and she pays the house and my truck and her car and utilities and groceries and such. All that I get a month, goes to my deductibles from my surgeries, which, is $10,000 a year out of pocket uncovered. So, I pay my medical bills left over in co-pays and out of pocket. BTW...this surgery in Sept. was submitted for $96,000, along with shoulder surgery last May submitted for $38,000, for a total of the amount insurance allowed of only $22,000 Sept and $9,000 in May....still, of which i'm responsible for $10,000 of in final...from that $700 a month check. |
