Those of you relying on those 10 second sound bites cable news puts out for the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth are looking in the wrong places. They are competing with one another to be first. They may be good places to find out that somethings going on, but to find out what that is that's going on its better to try out some print media, even blogs, the more the better. I don't know that they all lie, but they all misrepresent the facts. And if your only watching one source you're not getting much. IMHO |

I don't get cable, primarily because I'm too cheap to pay for it. I get all the major broadcast networks via the antenna, and a couple of public broadcast stations as well. I like PBS and NPR. I usually watch the evening news on CBS, NBC or ABC, watch 60 minutes most weeks and other news programs like like datline Rock Cental etc. I love the PBS documentaries and programs like Frontline and American Experience. I also like to watch the weekly news and commentary discussions like Washington Week, moderated by Gwyn Eifel, the McCloughlin Group, which is predominantly conservative, Bill Moyers and Too the Contrary. I often listen too Diane Rheem, The Talk of the Nation, Here and Now and several others on NPR. And, since aol meged with Huffington, I pick up a lot of articles off the aol main page daily when checking my e-mail. I suppose some of the dedicated Fox news folks would consider my tastes the "lamestream media", but I think I'm getting a pretty objective view. I have watched Fox cable on occassion, and it just seems so right wing biased. Actually the Fox broadcast news is not like that, it's pretty similar to ABC,NBC & CBS. I've always considered myself a moderate conservative. When I first started listening to NPR, I thought to myself, "well they area bunch of libs, but it's always good to hear the other side of the story". I found that for the most part they try to present a pretty balanced viewpoint. And, if I've moved to the left a little from listening, enlightenment is not a bad thing. Fox cable news IMO is Edited by tomdrobin, Feb 21 2012, 01:36 PM.

I don't think much of Time or Newsweek, but read them occasionally. I don't subscribe but mother does. I think its important to read the other side, listen to Stephanie Miller and Rachel Maddow along, even Chris Mathews. Watching the alphabets is as much a waste of time as cable unless you want to find some subjects to investigate and do investigate. Its amazing how much they and the cables get wrong. |

I have a problem with commentators that sit there alone giving their biased point of view. It's not just Limbaugh and Fox's Hannity, O'Rielly etc. It's also the Maddows and the Mathews. IMO it is much more balanced and informative to journalists and pundents having a round table discussion with both liberal and conservative views represented. I've seen a phoney version of that on Hannity, where he has one of each, and then he and the other right winger beat up on the lib. |

I figured this out years ago Stoney. I watch the 5 PM local news for weather and sports, outside the occasional investigative report on a politician, they concentrate on car accidents and murders for news. The only program I watch on NPR is the nightly business report. The rest of their news is slanted far to the left. Even last night, their leftists spiel spilled over into the business report. Since the stock market was closed for President's Day, they had an abbreviated program that concentrated on enviro wackos and their green sutainable BS businesses. |
