Before it is too late, never commit to paying for a kid's wedding. Bribe the kid, tell them marriage is old fashioned, leave town leaving no forwarding address, do whatever you need to do to avoid this mine field. I was foolish and thus in BC, watching the checkbook be drained.

I remember many years ago the girl next door "had to get married". (Old fashioned concept, I know.)

She had a small, quiet, almost secret, wedding. Her dad put up the money for the downpayment on the couple's house.

When my sister got married, she wanted a big splashy affair.

When my dad saw the cost, he asked her to get pregnant, and he's gladly give her a downpayment as well.

This one is for the son Brew, I already spent a King's ransom on both daughters. The bide's dad is crying the same teats I am. Our wives have gone nuts.

Yeah & Vancouver is not the cheapest place to get married. You would have been better off byying them a plane ticket to Bangladesh to tie the knot

Exactly Telco. I tried bribing them with a trip to Las Vegas.

I wrote my daughter a check and told her that was here wedding and wedding present and she could divide it anyway she liked. I thought sure they have a small wedding and pocket the rest. We ended up going to St. Maartin for the wedding and then spending some more.

My 2 daughters (now respectively 42 and 39y.o.) never married......., but they both have a husband and kids.
I never had to spend a dime on weddings...... but they got me otherwise...
