"Couldn't the companies, if they needed to grow, which I assume means their prospects are good, either borrow the money for expansion or sell more stock?"

What does it mean to say prospects are good other than it looks likely they will profit? Why else would people risk lending or buying stocks?

Stoney,
What's the difference between a capital investment and a cost of production?

A capital expense is generally real property.

Profit like I said, rivers. Of course there are other reasons related to, we might say, generating other types of wealth, religions, charities, and other non-profit efforts. And then there's government.

What I intended to say was that if the company needed to grow, one would think their prospects were good enough to attract lenders or shareholders. Therefore, those would be options to attract capital.

The simple solution to the double taxation problem, imo, is to require that all profits be distributed to the shareholders, which would then be taxed at the individuals tax rate. No taxes on the corporation.
I agree!
I don't know if I agree entirely, but I think it's worth considering...
Whether you agree or not is not important. Your opinion is meaningless.

Good to see we agree then.

If you say so. I didn't follow your argument so I tried to explain mine.

Jim,

My God. You are starting to cause me to believe that the school system in PA rivals Mississippi. If ignorance is bliss then you are one blissful dude....
