Yep, amazing huh. But hey, thats the American way.
It's only been that way since a well funded propoganda campaign reintroduced "economic darwinism". We have seen the excesses of it before, but some would forget the lessons of history.
Economic Darwinism is basically a misunderstanding of a metaphor introduced by Herbert Spencer and misapplication of biology, specifically evolutionary theory, to economics. TO make matters worse, the misunderstanding and misapplication also involves misunderstanding of evolutionary theory.

I hadn't heard it's been reintroduced, and would love a reference to see what all the hoopla is about.
