In what way? A general summary, 25 words should suffice. Just curious.

Chris wants to discuss Quebec politics? With Jack?

That's almost enough to make me watch.

One of the two of them would crack, and I don't think it would be Jack.

No, if Jack wishes to comment,
that is up to him.
Otherwise, the subject is dead.

Jack, perhaps you should explain to our American friends how your
feelings as a Quebecois may differ from those of Canadians in other provinces
I don't think your question has very much interest for most americans....
* Most americans do not know Quebec is predominantly French-speaking (+/-85%). Quebec has its own language law. All business must be done in French. French is the only legal language, althoug we are fairly tolerant for opened minded Canadians and american visitors.
*Most american do not know Quebec has never signed the Canadian constitution
*Most americans do not know Quebec has a different legal system than the rest of Canada.
*Most American do not know Quebec has more power and responsabilities that all other provinces. (immigration, pension plan and several others),
*Most americans do not know Quebec was granted the"Distinct Society" status in the Canadian Constitution, is spite of not being a signitary member of the constitution.
* Most americans do not know that the Quebec society is largely different than those living in the ROC.
Ex: only 15% of Quebec couples are married (36% in the ROC) Quebec divorce rate is almost double than the ROC (I've been married for 46 years, I must be an exception)most married woman keep the maiden name
Before 1960, Quebec was by the most religions province (98% Roman catholic) and may have had the highest level of church attendance of any region in north america. Today, church attendance has plummeted to the point that it now is among the lowest. Less than 15% of the french speaking quebecois define themselves as "non-religious" or never attend church. Request for prayer seen in some discussion forums, and even newspaper in the states are obviously subject to heavy laughter in Quebec. Religion is considered as being something between an individual and whoever he think god is. It is never discussed in public, on tv, or in political arenas.
Back in 1960, none of the 200 largest corporations in Quebec had an English Canadian at its head. Now, of the 200 largest corporation, 187 have French canadian at the head.
* People here work to live, and very few live to work. Quebecois are the laziest workers in Canada, working on average 3.5 hours/week less than the average Canadian. Most will prefer longer vacation than an equivalent salary increase. Quebecois are the most travelled Canadians. 58% of Quebecois have a passport, 44%% in ROC (18% in the U.S.????)
*Quebecers are well known for their gastronomic pleasures and their strong French-influenced culinary tradition, and typically spend a greater proportion of their disposable income on food. A food store with less than 100 different cheeses and patés are considered as a mere convenience store (a poor french Canadian from Montreal owns 3,500 7-Eleven/Circle K and others stores in 43 states)...and he does not speak a world of English) Cooking at home is a sport, second in popularity only to hockey. Getting a fancy dinner ready with a group of friends is probably as popular as a weekly super bowl would be in the U.S. (with better food and better wine.) Montreal has the best restaurants in north america. We drink more wine than any other place in North America, but very little hard liquor. Quebecers are known for their ''joie de vivre,'' (joy of life) sense of humor, distinct language, culture, tastes and for generally doing things their own way. You don't tell a Quebecer what to do.
Quebecers are also known for their graft and corruption, going all the way back to the Duplessi era. But, Quebecers are Quebecers are nown for their great tolerance. Quebecers are also known for their entrepreneurial spirit and enquiring minds, and can take credit for many a technical innovation. Quebec has become a solid business center with world wide recognized companies (run by French Canadians) (
Unfortunately, some Quebecois have developed, over the generations, quite a negative perception of English Canadians.
This sentiment come from the old reference to the "English = conquerors" .Many horror stories were maintained (mostly by the clergy) about how bad the "blokes" were, how they killed French Canadians in 1773, how they raped woman, and how they deported thousand of Acadians for not accepting to sign alliegeance to the british king. In those days, French canadians could not own a piece of land, or build his own house, or start his own business, could not vote at elections and were really considered as second class citizens. (Read the book: French Canadians, the White Niggers of America).
That perception (English = conqueror)is slowly being eroded (thankfully) as Quebecers are more opened to the world.
For the last few decades, all our licence plate read Posted Image Je Me Souviens (I remember) and has become the province' s slogan.
enough.........

I was asking Hank a question. Does that somehow bother you? Hank at times is willing to discuss.

I didn't know "Most americans do not know Quebec was granted the"Distinct Society" status in the Canadian Constitution, is spite of not being a signitary member of the constitution."

What's that status mean?

So far I'm still the only one who responded to the OP.

While it's interesting to hear that liberal Canadians like you all don't like conservative Harper, it's not really to the point of the topic.
