Oh dear, a bunch of far right nutballs on a forum I don't even attend are dumping on me ... I'm crushed - CRUSHED, I tell you! Talk about having nothing to do...
Eyooh! "Nutballs!"Now we have the "nutball identification experts" (NIEs) to add to the "wingnut identification experts" (WIEs). I wouldn't think you'd have to "justify" if you were an expert. Saves discussion/debate time. WIEs/NIEs, Probably part of the same curriculum I would think. Offered where? .... UC Berkley?, Harvard?, Univ of NC Chapel Hill? Obviously an advanced study curriculum. But yes, Mike and Pat have done a very respectable job of keeping this forum diversified and keeping the wingnuts and nutballs of the one side and the WIEs and NIEs of the other side from either taking over control of this forum. I know they (the WIEs and NIEs) would probably like to make it into a "Media Matters" type forum where everyone thinks the same.... according to a type of government-like, pre-described subject matter forum with significant "regulations" in place to do the "controlling." And, the wingnuts and nutballs should not act too hastily in that it might just be a lot of fun. Sort of like an online Woodstock.
"I know they (the WIEs and NIEs) would probably like to make it into a "Media Matters" type forum where everyone thinks the same.... according to a type of government-like, pre-described subject matter forum with significant "regulations" in place to do the "controlling" Not so, Ban. What we would like is for those who disagree with us to provide some actual facts. Chris does most of the time, but when he can't he resorts to the same old BS the rest of you guys use.
You mean answering with facts other than just answering with "wingnut" and "nutballs or "BS?"
Meaning..... there aren't many facts when you answer with just "looney wingnuts" or "nutballs."
This was my main point:
Now we have the "nutball identification experts" (NIEs) to add to the "wingnut identification experts" (WIEs). I wouldn't think you'd have to "justify" if you were an expert. Saves discussion/debate time.
Thump started the thread as a complement to Mike's forum but with a slant, sort of. He gave Mike credit for a fair and balanced (diversified) forum, unlike other forums that are so one sided that people leave. And he brought in Chris' forum as one that might be that way. Brew's answer wasn't factual, it was "nutballs," no facts. Sometimes you liberals shorten your "facts" or eliminate them altogether by your short answer of "looney wingnuts" and "nutballs" then, THEN, turn to the righties wanting "facts," as you both just mentioned.
I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with that.... with calling the right names without presenting facts for such, but you probably shouldn't do it then ask for others to present facts. For example, quite often when those on the right post as a rightie might post, you refer to it as "BS" which you just did above in regard to Chris "the rest of you guys." Nothing wrong with that either. And, when you (the left) refer to a GOP politician such as Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, Ron Paul, etc. you often refer to them as far right "looney wingnuts" or "nutballs" and such without presenting much in the way of facts for them to be labelled in that way. Doing that you choose the short answer but without facts which doesn't leave much room or desire for much dicussion or debate.
I think the left on this forum uses those kinds of names often when referring to right wing politicians, policies, and such. If the right refers to Obama as a "socialist" or a "far left liberal progressive," which are acceptable political/social terms, the right is called racist. We don't have to use names like "left wingnut, looney, halfbreed, nitwit" to cause alarm. All it takes is a strong disagreement with his policies to be called racist, right wingnut loonies, nutjobs and done so with no facts presented.

Ban, you're stretching it.
I've never been to that forum, and don't ever expect to go, so it's pretty hard to claim I was trying to present facts.
I was presenting it in a somewhat humourous form, as should have been evident from the emoticons at the bottom.
Not every post I or anyone else makes here is serious. (i hope, or things are worse than I thought.)
When I'm posting numbers and hard info, you'll know it - there'll be no "nutball" insults. (Except when I'm talking about Climate Deniers of course, and then it isn't an insult, it's a descriptive term, and it will be linked to proof.)

The solution to your dilemma, and I accept your complaint as somewhat valid, is when the kind of incident like you describe arises, ask for facts. Now, everybody knows that no one can offer facts, that everyone would accept, regarding calling someone a looney or a wingnut. OTOH, i think it is possible to present facts to show or not show that Obama is a Communist or a Muslim or an American citizen. IOW, I think you are describing different circumstances.

It was hard to tell from your answer that followed Thump's and Thump the only name Thump mentioned by name was Chris'. I took it you were referring to any forum that you considered "right wing," as I never saw where you referred to any Left Wing forum as "nutballs."
And yes, I knew you were joking, and, I did say "there's nothing wrong with that."
But I do agree with Chris that there is too much name calling. Joking is one thing, name calling another. And name calling as an obvious joke is more than acceptable. But name calling when the discussion is serious doesn't accomplish much.
But as Neil ended his post (and I really like Neil as I do all on this forum), he implied that Chris, after putting up good, factual informtion, can resort to BS, "as all you guys do." That could have been left out, unless he was going to point out some specifics.... but still he could call it something else... like misinformation and throw in some fact to show that it's misinformation. Much of our comments are "opinions." And humor is good.. in fact, it's necessary and if that humor is coupled with name calling, I don't really mind.

Only disagree that it may not matter. Name calling, insults and persoanl attacks say a lot about the character of name callers, insulters and personal attackers.
" Joking is one thing, name calling another."
Exactly. Good natured kidding and ribbing can be fun. I don't see very much of it here though.

Why do I hear the saying, "Standing in the front yard, throwing rocks thru the window"?
Geesh. Arguing about other forums with so much arguing about THIS forum doesn't make sense. Come on, people. Insults, personal attacks, name calling, whatever. What does it matter what happens in another forum...which, btw, i'm also a member? I don't go there and argue and attack people here. In fact, I have about 10 other forums I go to, and this is the only one i've seen where someone argues about what goes on in the neighbors yard while their yard is a mess.
If you stop paying attention what happens in the next yard and concentrate on what's going on in your own, then there would be more discussion and less bantering and arguing here. So, why not worry about here and leave everywhere else alone? It doesn't amount to a hill of beans what anyone thinks here, because over there, it's a different place with different people. So, why worry about it or make fun? A person only makes fun of something they don't understand, anyway. And, I know you people here should.
Let's concentrate on debate, discussion, even arguing here instead of worrying what goes on elsewhere. You can't change there, but you could change here. And, that's what matters.
