Aren't you used to that, Chris?
Why, thank you, Jim. ow, just what is it you think you gain from the use of personal insults?
Apparently, it is OK to insult everyone except Chris.
I don't mind if people insult me, just reveals their willingness to make up things about others' motivations.

Insult
Quote:

Sociologists suggest that insults are often an indicator of flawed reasoning about the character or motivation of others. Though insults are common, and often used in jest, a fundamental axiom of sociology recognizes that derogatory forms of speech make erroneous attributions about the motivation of a person. Scholars classify the erroneous assumptions as the fundamental attribution error.

Situations also exist in which a person erroneously believes he or she has been insulted. For example, terms such as "Asian", "incorrect", "drunk", or "full-cheeked" are often interpreted as derogatory, when in fact they may be neutral descriptive terms or factual statements, which, at worst, would be simply inaccurate or incorrect rather than insulting. This phenomenon often occurs in individuals who suffer self-victimization or hypersensitivity.

Everyone seems to be fair game with you, Sea.
I do not insult except in retaliation.
Not justification for insults.

I also never intentionally insult anyone asking a reasonable question or making a reasonable comment.
Not justification for insults.

I think most of your questions nd opinions unreasonable, but I don't find that justification for personally insulting you, simple for showing where you're unreasonable.

Oh dear, a bunch of far right nutballs on a forum I don't even attend are dumping on me ...

I'm crushed - CRUSHED, I tell you! :banghead:

Talk about having nothing to do...

mu  :hystery:
Eyooh! "Nutballs!"

Now we have the "nutball identification experts" (NIEs) to add to the "wingnut identification experts" (WIEs). I wouldn't think you'd have to "justify" if you were an expert. Saves discussion/debate time.

WIEs/NIEs, Probably part of the same curriculum I would think. Offered where? .... UC Berkley?, Harvard?, Univ of NC
Chapel Hill? Obviously an advanced study curriculum.

But yes, Mike and Pat have done a very respectable job of keeping this forum diversified and keeping the wingnuts and nutballs of the one side and the WIEs and NIEs of the other side from either taking over control of this forum. I know they (the WIEs and NIEs) would probably like to make it into a "Media Matters" type forum where everyone thinks the same.... according to a type of government-like, pre-described subject matter forum with significant "regulations" in place to do the "controlling." And, the wingnuts and nutballs should not act too hastily in that it might just be a lot of fun. Sort of like an online Woodstock.

Where did you get that idea, Ban?

I cannot think of a single comment from any moderate or left winger that would lead to that conclusion. As a matter of fact, I can't think of any rightwingers suggesting anything like that either.

As for myself, all I've ever asked is if people want to post something purported to be real facts, they use reliable sources, not simply right or left blogs.

Not so, Ban. What we would like is for those who disagree with us to provide some actual facts. Chris does most of the time, but when he can't he resorts to the same old BS the rest of you guys use.

Seems to me some people call what they disagree with BS when they can't muster an argument against it, and some others simply resort to insults.

An observation. If you subtracted all the name calling, insults, personal attacks, etc from this forum you'd probably be left with about 10% of the posts. The name calling, insults, personal attacks, etc tend to overwhelm any attempt at discussion.
