Paul, it appears that your limiting your definition of resources to physical resources. But so much of the wealth of today is intellectual property. Trading software for a good mystery involves no physical resources but absolutely involves the trading of wealth. Wealth is being created constantly, and distributed constantly. |

The disagreement here is between two economic views, one that sees wealth itself as a limited resource and economic activity as win-lose, and the other that sees wealth as something created in win-win exchange. The one is basic to socialism, the other to capitalism. |

That would be unrealistic, however as the population of the planet increases and we only have a finite amount of resources, we need to find a way to cut our consumption of them through recycling & renewable or energy efficient means to forestall the inevitable or delay it until we have the means to exploit the solar system for what we need. If we don't, mother nature will solve the problem by reducing our population to a sustainable level. Against our wishes. |

The pop of the planet is decreasing. See The world’s losing its workers. How will we compete?. I think again you're conflating natural resources and wealth. Let me ask a simple question: What do you think the outcome of energy efficiency will be? |

Where did you get a figure that the population is decreasing? There were big headlines this fall about us crossing another billion milestone. Or don't Indians, Nigerians & Chinamen count? |

A lot of what ifs in that one. However reduction in oil usage would allow that resource to be utilized for a far longer time into the future in the many ways it is essential besides burning it. |
